Overview

The nVent Quick Tray Pro C-Bracket (SKU: QTPCB12BLK) is a robust and essential component for secure and versatile cable management installations, particularly in overhead applications. Engineered from durable black steel, this C-bracket is specifically designed to facilitate the mounting of nVent's Quick Tray Pro basket tray systems beneath ceilings, overhangs, or other elevated structural elements. Its intelligent design allows for direct attachment to overhead structures, providing a stable foundation from which the basket tray is supported from below, ensuring a clean and organized cable pathway. This C-bracket is optimized for use with Quick Tray Pro basket tray widths up to 12 inches (305 mm). The installation process is streamlined, requiring specific hardware for securing the basket tray to the bracket. For tray widths up to 8 inches (203 mm), a single QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washer and one QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kit are recommended. For 12-inch (305-mm) wide trays, two sets of these splice kits are necessary to ensure maximum stability and load-bearing capacity. This attention to detail in hardware specification underscores the system's engineered reliability. Beyond single-level installations, the nVent Quick Tray Pro C-Bracket offers exceptional flexibility through its stackable design. This feature is invaluable for multi-level tray installations, allowing for efficient use of vertical space in data centers, industrial facilities, and commercial buildings where cable density is high. The ability to stack brackets enables the creation of organized, tiered cable management systems, simplifying future expansions and maintenance. Key benefits and features include: * **Robust Construction:** Manufactured from high-quality steel for exceptional durability and longevity in demanding industrial environments. * **Versatile Mounting:** Designed for overhead installations, providing flexible support for Quick Tray Pro basket trays. * **Optimized for Quick Tray Pro:** Specifically engineered to integrate seamlessly with nVent's Quick Tray Pro basket tray system. * **Wide Tray Compatibility:** Supports basket tray widths up to 12 inches (305 mm). * **Stackable Design:** Enables multi-level installations for efficient space utilization. * **Secure Attachment:** Utilizes specific splice kits for reliable and safe basket tray to bracket connection. * **Professional Finish:** Features a black coating for enhanced aesthetics and corrosion resistance. How to Install and Customize QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Systems

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for cutting, bending, joining, and supporting QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray sections to create a custom cable management system.

Estimated time: 1h 30m

Tools needed:

Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC)

Supplies needed:

Splice Kits (QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washers (QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90-degree Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK)

  1. Plan Your Cable Tray Layout

Before cutting or bending, determine the required configuration, including straight runs, bends, elbows, tees, and level changes. Review the cutting patterns for your specific tray size and desired modifications to ensure proper fit and function.

  2. Cut Cable Tray Sections

Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter to make precise cuts. First, decide which wires must be cut according to your layout plan. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and make angled cuts away from the new end for all side wires, starting with the top. Then, turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, resting the jaws on the cradle wire and cutting at an angle. Ensure one clean cut to eliminate grinding or touch-up and help protect against corrosion.

  3. Create 90-Degree Bends

At the desired bend location, cut all side and bottom wires as indicated in the specific cutting pattern for your tray width. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend it up until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend using Splice Kits (QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK) and Splice Washers (QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK) at the specified locations for the tray width to maintain structural integrity.

  4. Form Large Radius Bends

For large radius bends, remove wires from the outside and bottom of every other mesh section at the bend location, following the provided cutting pattern for your tray size. Lay the tray on a flat surface and pull the ends on the uncut side towards each other until the remaining cut sides almost touch at the corners. Fasten the inside of the bends together using the appropriate hardware as shown in the diagrams.

  5. Assemble Elbows

To create an elbow, cut side wires from each of the two tray sections according to the specific cutting pattern for the desired angle and tray width. Align the wires of the two trays at the desired angle. Fasten the joint using two Splice Kits (QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK) and Splice Washers (QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK) for each joint. For adjustable angles, use one Splice Kit and one Splice Washer, centered over two tray bottom wires, ensuring each splice washer covers two bottom wires.

  6. Construct 90-Degree Tees

Cut the side wires from the tray section that will form the top of the tee, following the cutting guide for your tray size. Align the wires of the two tray sections to form a 90-degree angle. Fasten the connection using a T-Connection or 90-degree Splice Bar (QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK) along with Splice Kits (QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK) and Splice Washers (QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK) as indicated for the tray size for each joint. This provides extra support and stability.

  7. Reduce Tray Width

To reduce the tray width, cut the side and bottom wires as shown in the cutting guides for the desired reduction (e.g., four or eight inches). Connect the uncut side of the trays using a Universal Splice Bar (QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK) with appropriate fasteners. Bend the cut wires of each tray and use a Universal Splice Bar with fasteners on each pair of tray wires to secure the reduced width section, ensuring a stable transition.

  8. Change Tray Levels

To navigate obstacles or change elevation, remove every other side wire section at the bend location from both sides of the tray. The number of removed side wire sections determines the radius of the bend. Smoothly bend the tray up or down to achieve the desired level change, ensuring the bend is gradual and does not stress the remaining wires.

  9. Support the Cable Tray System

Install straight section supports at 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections, and the span between supports does not exceed the length of the tray. Provide additional supports around all bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to maintain stability, prevent sagging, and ensure the long-term integrity of the cable management system.
