How to Install and Configure QUICK TRAY PRO™ QTP4X4 Cable Tray
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for cutting, bending, joining, and supporting QUICK TRAY PRO™ QTP4X4 cable tray sections to create a custom cable management system. Learn to modify straight sections into bends, elbows, and tees, and ensure proper support for your installation.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC)
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray (QTP4X4), Splice Kit (QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washer (QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bar (QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar (QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK)
- Plan the Cable Tray Route and Modifications
Before cutting or bending, determine the required route for the cable tray. Identify all necessary straight sections, bends, elbows, and tees, and review the corresponding cutting patterns for your specific tray size, such as QTP4X4.
- Cut Cable Tray Sections
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to cut the QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and make cuts at an angle away from the new end. Ensure one clean cut to eliminate grinding or touch-up. Cut side wires first, then turn the tray over and cut bottom wires from the underside. Always use the specified bolt cutter to minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion.
- Form Bends or Elbows
To create a 90-degree bend, cut the wires as indicated in the cutting pattern for your tray width. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend it until the inside edges meet. Secure the bend using QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers. For elbows, cut side wires from two tray sections according to the pattern, then align and fasten them at the desired angle using Splice Kits and Splice Washers.
- Join Cable Tray Sections
Connect straight sections or modified tray parts using QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers. For additional support or specific configurations like tees or Y-junctions, utilize Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10) or T-Connection Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT) as required, fastening them securely with Splice Kits and Washers.
- Support the Cable Tray System
Install supports for straight sections at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. The span between supports must not exceed the length of the tray. Add additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to ensure stability.
