Overview

The nVent Quick Tray Pro Wire Mesh Cable Tray System, specifically the QTP4X4 straight section, offers a robust and versatile solution for managing and routing electrical and data cables in industrial and commercial environments. Engineered for efficiency and accessibility, this system is designed to be installed in unused ceiling spaces, under floors, or along walls, providing a clean and organized pathway for your critical infrastructure. The 4-inch by 4-inch dimensions of this section are ideal for moderate cable loads, ensuring ample space without unnecessary bulk. Crafted from durable steel with a light gray finish, the Quick Tray Pro system is built to withstand demanding conditions. Its open wire mesh construction is a key differentiator, offering significant advantages over traditional conduit or solid tray systems. This design promotes superior ventilation, which is crucial for dissipating heat generated by cables, thereby extending their lifespan and preventing performance degradation. Furthermore, the open structure allows for easy visual inspection of cable runs and significantly simplifies maintenance, modifications, or additions to the cabling system. Technicians can quickly identify issues or make changes without needing to dismantle large sections of the tray. The inherent flexibility of the Quick Tray Pro system lies in its modular design. A variety of components, including this straight section, bends, tees, reducers, and mounting hardware, can be combined to create a custom-configured system tailored to the unique layout and requirements of any application. This adaptability makes it an excellent choice for diverse sectors such as data centers, manufacturing facilities, telecommunications infrastructure, and commercial buildings. The ease of installation is another significant benefit. The integrated splice system requires no separate hardware, reducing labor time and potential points of failure. The system's lightweight yet strong construction also contributes to faster and safer installation processes. When selecting a cable management solution, factors like load capacity, environmental resistance, and ease of future access are paramount. The nVent Quick Tray Pro system excels in these areas. Its steel construction provides excellent structural integrity, while the light gray powder-coat finish offers a degree of corrosion resistance suitable for many indoor applications. The 120-inch length of this straight section allows for efficient coverage of longer runs, minimizing the number of splices required. Professionals trust nVent for its commitment to quality and innovation in electrical and data infrastructure solutions, and the Quick Tray Pro system is a prime example of their dedication to providing reliable, high-performance products that streamline installation and enhance operational efficiency. This 4x4 straight section is a fundamental building block for creating a secure, organized, and easily maintainable cable pathway.

How to Install and Configure QUICK TRAY PRO™ QTP4X4 Cable Tray

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for cutting, bending, joining, and supporting QUICK TRAY PRO™ QTP4X4 cable tray sections to create a custom cable management system. Learn to modify straight sections into bends, elbows, and tees, and ensure proper support for your installation.

Estimated time: 2h

Tools needed:

Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC)

Supplies needed:

QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray (QTP4X4), Splice Kit (QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washer (QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bar (QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar (QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK)

  1. Plan the Cable Tray Route and Modifications

Before cutting or bending, determine the required route for the cable tray. Identify all necessary straight sections, bends, elbows, and tees, and review the corresponding cutting patterns for your specific tray size, such as QTP4X4.

  2. Cut Cable Tray Sections

Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to cut the QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and make cuts at an angle away from the new end. Ensure one clean cut to eliminate grinding or touch-up. Cut side wires first, then turn the tray over and cut bottom wires from the underside. Always use the specified bolt cutter to minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion.

  3. Form Bends or Elbows

To create a 90-degree bend, cut the wires as indicated in the cutting pattern for your tray width. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend it until the inside edges meet. Secure the bend using QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers. For elbows, cut side wires from two tray sections according to the pattern, then align and fasten them at the desired angle using Splice Kits and Splice Washers.

  4. Join Cable Tray Sections

Connect straight sections or modified tray parts using QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers. For additional support or specific configurations like tees or Y-junctions, utilize Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10) or T-Connection Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT) as required, fastening them securely with Splice Kits and Washers.

  5. Support the Cable Tray System

Install supports for straight sections at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. The span between supports must not exceed the length of the tray. Add additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to ensure stability.
