How to Cut and Create a 90-degree Bend in QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray

This guide provides instructions for safely cutting QUICK TRAY PRO cable tray sections using the specialized bolt cutter and forming them into a 90-degree bend for custom cable routing installations.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

QTPBC Side Action Bolt Cutter

Supplies needed:

QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray, QTPBNWK Splice Kit, QTPSSW3 Splice Washer

  1. Review Cutting Pattern

Before cutting, review the specific cutting pattern for your tray size and desired 90-degree bend. Identify and mark the wires shown in red on the diagrams that need to be removed from the cable tray section.

  2. Cut the Top Side Wire

Position the jaws of the Hoffman side action bolt cutter on the cradle wire of the top side wire. Make a clean, angled cut away from the new end to minimize sharp edges and help protect against corrosion.

  3. Cut Remaining Side Wires

Continue to cut the remaining side wires, ensuring the cutting jaws rest on the cradle wire and the cut is angled away from the new end. Aim for one clean cut per wire to avoid grinding or touch-up.

  4. Cut the Bottom Wires

Turn the cable tray over. From the underside, cut the bottom wires. Always rest the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and make an angled cut away from the new end, ensuring a clean finish.

  5. Form the 90-degree Bend

Turn the tray onto its uncut side. Smoothly bend the tray upwards until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet, forming the desired 90-degree angle.

  6. Secure the Bend

Fasten the formed bend using QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers. Refer to the documentation for the correct fastening locations based on your specific tray width to ensure stability.

  7. Install Tray Supports

Place straight section supports at 6-foot (1.5m) intervals. Position additional supports within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections, and around bends or level changes, ensuring the span between supports does not exceed the tray length.
