Overview

The nVent PLCS1X2 (SKU: PLCS1X2) is a leak compensation unit designed for Purge and Pressurization (P&P) systems operating at 230VAC. This unit maintains positive internal pressure in Type 4, 4X, and 12 enclosures to prevent ingress of explosive gases or combustible dusts, ensuring safety in hazardous locations. Unlike continuous flow systems, the PLCS1X2 intelligently monitors and replenishes gas lost due to minor leaks, optimizing gas efficiency and reducing operational costs. Key specifications include an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance, compatibility with standard 230VAC power grids, and support for hazardous area compliance. Ideal for industries such as oil and gas, chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, and food and beverage, this unit extends equipment lifespan by protecting sensitive electronics from corrosive elements, moisture, and particulate contamination. The PLCS1X2 is part of nVent's trusted Purge and Pressurization series, delivering reliable performance in demanding industrial applications.

How to Install the nVent Hoffman Purge/Pressurization Unit

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring the nVent Hoffman Purge/Pressurization Unit to ensure safe operation in hazardous environments.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Nylon tubing, Dry contact alarm connectors

  1. Prepare the enclosure

Using the supplied mounting template, cut mounting holes into the enclosure, ensuring that the Control Unit and Relief Valve are diagonally opposed.

  2. Mount the Control Unit

Secure the Control Unit to the enclosure using appropriate mounting screws. Ensure it is firmly attached and positioned for easy visibility of indicators.

  3. Mount the Relief Valve

Secure the Relief Valve to the enclosure in the designated location, ensuring it is also firmly attached.

  4. Connect tubing

Connect the Control Unit and Relief Valve using 6mm OD nylon tubing. Ensure all connections are tight and leak-free.

  5. Connect the alarm output

Connect the dry contact alarm output from the Control Unit as required for your system.

  6. Connect the air supply

Connect an isolated air supply to the Control Unit, ensuring the supply pressure is set to 60 PSIG (4 bar) and does not exceed 115 PSIG (8 bar).

  7. Check enclosure integrity

Ensure the enclosure door is closed, fully latched, and free of leaks before proceeding.

  8. Activate the air supply

Turn on the air supply and monitor the system for any leaks or issues.

  9. Adjust the Leakage Compensation Valve

Slowly increase the Leakage Compensation Valve until the Alarm Indicator turns from RED to GREEN, indicating proper pressure.

  10. Initiate purging

Turn the Purge Control Valve ON and ensure the Purge Indicator turns from BLACK to YELLOW, indicating that purging has started.

  11. Complete the purge cycle

After the designated purge time has elapsed, turn the Purge Control Valve OFF to stop the purging process.

  12. Power the enclosure

Once purging is complete, power can now be applied to the enclosure safely.

  13. Refer to the manual

Consult the full manual for any additional assistance or troubleshooting as needed.
