How to Install the nVent Hoffman Purge/Pressurization Unit

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring the nVent Hoffman Purge/Pressurization Unit to ensure safe operation in hazardous environments.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, 6mm OD Nylon tubing, Dry contact alarm connectors

  1. Prepare the enclosure

Use the supplied mounting template to cut mounting holes into the enclosure, ensuring that the Control Unit and Relief Valve are diagonally opposed.

  2. Mount the Control Unit

Secure the Control Unit to the enclosure using the appropriate mounting screws. Ensure it is firmly attached and positioned for easy visibility of indicators.

  3. Mount the Relief Valve

Secure the Relief Valve to the enclosure in the designated location, ensuring it is also firmly attached.

  4. Connect tubing

Connect the Control Unit and Relief Valve using 6mm OD Nylon tubing. Ensure all connections are tight and leak-free.

  5. Connect the alarm output

Connect the dry contact alarm output from the Control Unit as required for your setup.

  6. Connect the air supply

Connect an isolated air supply to the Control Unit, ensuring the supply pressure is set to 60 PSIG (4 bar) and does not exceed 115 PSIG (8 bar).

  7. Check enclosure integrity

Ensure the enclosure door is closed, fully latched, and free of leaks before proceeding.

  8. Turn on the air supply

Turn on the air supply to the Control Unit and monitor the pressure.

  9. Adjust the Leakage Compensation Valve

Slowly increase the Leakage Compensation Valve until the Alarm Indicator turns from RED to GREEN, indicating proper pressure.

  10. Initiate purging

Turn the Purge Control Valve ON and ensure the Purge Indicator turns from BLACK to YELLOW, indicating that purging has started.

  11. Complete the purging process

After the required purge time has elapsed, turn the Purge Control Valve OFF to stop the high purge flow.

  12. Apply power to the enclosure

Once purging is complete, power can now be applied to the enclosure safely.

  13. Refer to the manual for assistance

Consult the full manual for any additional setup or troubleshooting guidance as needed.
