How to Safely Handle and Install a Hoffman Enclosure

Follow these instructions for the safe handling and installation of your Hoffman enclosure. Always prioritize safety and refer to the nameplate or datasheet for specific model information.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Forklift, Overhead lifting device, Slings with hooks or shackles, Chain or strap (3000 lb-rated)

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, ROLL•A•LIFT™ or similar device

  1. Read Safe Handling Requirements

Before moving or installing the enclosure, thoroughly read and understand the 'Large Enclosure Safe Handling Requirements' document that accompanied the enclosure. Ensure the route is clear of obstructions and workers are at a safe distance.

  2. Prepare for Movement

Ensure the enclosure is stabilized before removing any strapping. If using a forklift, know its safe lifting capabilities and ensure it can handle the enclosure's weight and size. Always use both forks and position the enclosure far back on the forks, keeping the load against the carriage and tilting the load backwards towards the mast.

  3. Secure Enclosure for Transport

If using a forklift, secure the enclosure to the forklift mast using a 3000 lb-rated chain or strap through the provided eye bolts. Ensure sufficient tension to prevent tipping. If using an overhead lifting device, attach rigging to eye bolts, maintaining a maximum 45° angle between lifting cables and the vertical. Use slings with adequate load-rated hooks or shackles, not ropes or cables.

  4. Move the Enclosure

Start and stop the forklift slowly and gradually. Drive slowly with the forks as low to the ground as possible. For overhead lifting, select or adjust rigging lengths to compensate for any unequal weight distribution and support the enclosure in an upright position. Do not attempt to lift the enclosure completely off the ground if using a forklift with a clamping device.

  5. Position the Enclosure

Carefully position the enclosure on the forks or in its final location. Ensure it is stable and does not contact fixed objects. If using a ROLL•A•LIFT™ or similar device for multi-door enclosures, place it under one end and lift that end slightly while the forklift handles the other.

  6. Final Installation Checks

Verify that the enclosure is level, firmly installed, and all safety precautions have been followed. Re-check tension on any securing chains or straps. Refer to the nameplate or datasheet for any model-specific installation details not covered here.
