How to Install and Set Up the nVent SPECTRACOOL N28 Air Conditioner
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the physical installation, electrical wiring, and initial setup of the nVent SPECTRACOOL N28 air conditioner, including optional digital thermostat configuration.

Mounting Gasket Kit, Mounting Bolts, Copper Conductors, Slow Blow Fuse or HACR Circuit Breaker
- Inspect and Position the Air Conditioner
Inspect the air conditioner for any concealed damage from shipment. If the unit has been in a horizontal position, place it in an upright, vertical, or mounting position for a minimum of five minutes before proceeding. CAUTION: Do not operate the air conditioner while it is horizontal or on its side, back, or front, as this will cause permanent damage to the refrigeration compressor and void the warranty.
- Perform Initial Functional Test
Before mounting, test the unit for functionality. Refer to the nameplate for electrical requirements and wire the unit to a properly grounded power supply using copper conductors only. Ensure minimum circuit ampacity is at least 125% of the nameplate amperage. Set the cooling thermostat or controller setpoint below the ambient temperature. Operate the compressor for five to ten minutes, verifying the evaporator blower starts and condenser air temperatures become warmer than room temperatures.
- Install Mounting Gaskets
Using the mounting gasket kit provided with the unit, carefully install the gaskets onto the air conditioner as illustrated in Figure 1 of the manual.
- Mount Air Conditioner
Mount the air conditioner onto the enclosure. Exercise caution to avoid damaging the mounting gasket, as it forms the watertight seal between the air conditioner and the enclosure. Do not drag the air conditioner on the enclosure once the gasket is attached, as this could cause rips or tears.
- Secure Mounting Bolts
To prevent cross-threading the mounting inserts, start all mounting bolts by hand before tightening them fully with a wrench or ratchet driver.
- Allow Unit to Stabilize
After mounting, ensure the unit remains in an upright position for a minimum of five minutes before initiating operation. The air conditioner must remain in an upright position during all operational periods.
- Connect to Main Power
Refer to the unit's nameplate for specific electrical requirements. Wire the air conditioner to a properly grounded power supply. The electrical circuit must be fused with a slow blow or HACR circuit breaker to prevent overloading.
- Wire Remote Thermostat (Optional)
If your air conditioner model requires a remote mounted thermostat, wire its outputs to the appropriate terminals on the 24 VAC terminal strip. Consult the correct wiring diagram provided in the manual for precise terminal locations and connections.
- Set Thermostat Setpoint
Adjust the thermostat to the desired cabinet temperature. For standard thermostats, refer to the 'Sequence of Operation' section on page 4 for adjustment and operation guidelines. For digital thermostats, proceed to the next steps for configuration.
- Energize Digital Controller (Optional)
If your unit is equipped with a digital thermostat controller, it is pre-wired and programmed at the factory. It will automatically operate when power is applied to the air conditioner. The evaporator fan should start within 30 seconds after self-evaluation, and the fan icon, along with inlet and outlet temperature data (if applicable), should illuminate on the display.
- Configure Digital Thermostat Settings (Optional)
To view or change the digital thermostat settings, press and hold the 'Keypad Select' button for 5 seconds to access the parameter menu. Use the 'Keypad Up' and 'Keypad Down' buttons to navigate through parameters and adjust variables. Hold the 'Keypad Select' button for 3 seconds to return to the main screen after saving any changes. Factory settings are pre-programmed.
