How to Install and Configure the G28 Spectracool Air Conditioner

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the physical installation, electrical wiring, and initial configuration of the G28 Spectracool Air Conditioner, including thermostat and remote access control settings.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Wrench, Ratchet driver, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Mounting gasket kit, Mounting bolts, Copper conductors, Time delay fuse or HACR circuit breaker

  1. Inspect and Test Functionality

Inspect the air conditioner for any shipping damage. If the unit has been in a horizontal position, place it upright for a minimum of five (5) minutes before operating. CAUTION: Do not operate the air conditioner while it is horizontal or on its side, back, or front, as this will cause permanent damage and void the warranty. Connect the unit to a properly grounded power supply (refer to the nameplate for requirements). Set the cooling thermostat or controller setpoint below the ambient temperature. Operate the compressor for five (5) to ten (10) minutes and verify the evaporator blower starts and condenser air warms.

  2. Prepare Enclosure Cutouts and Location

Using the cutout dimensions shown on page 8 of the manual, prepare the air 'IN' and 'OUT' openings, and the mounting bolt hole pattern for the enclosure. Select an installation location that allows for adequate ventilation and service clearance: at least 24 inches from the front, 17 inches from the right side, 4 inches from the left side, and 6 inches from the top. Ensure at least 3 inches clearance between the air conditioner and internal enclosure components to ensure adequate air circulation.

  3. Install Mounting Gasket

Using the gasket kit provided, install the mounting gasket onto the air conditioner. This gasket forms the watertight seal between the air conditioner and the enclosure.

  4. Mount Air Conditioner to Enclosure

Carefully mount the air conditioner onto the enclosure, taking care not to damage the mounting gasket. Avoid dragging the air conditioner on the enclosure with the gasket attached. To avoid cross-threading mounting inserts, start the mounting bolts by hand before tightening them securely with a wrench or ratchet driver.

  5. Connect Electrical Power

Ensure the unit has remained upright for a minimum of five (5) minutes before applying power. Refer to the nameplate for specific electrical requirements. Connect the power cord or wire the unit to a properly grounded power supply by following applicable national wiring regulations. Use copper conductors only if permanently connected. For 3-phase units, once power is applied, verify that the phase monitor light is illuminated, indicating correct electrical phasing. If the air conditioner is wired to the power supply, the electrical circuit should be fused with a time delay fuse or HACR circuit breaker per the MOPD rating in the Design Data table (page 24).

  6. Configure Thermostat or Remote Access Control

For units requiring a remote mounted thermostat, wire the thermostat outputs to the appropriate terminals on the 24 VAC terminal strip by noting the locations on the correct wiring diagram for your specific unit. For units with thermostats, set the thermostat for the required cabinet temperature. For units with Remote Access Control, set the controller setpoints for the required cabinet temperature. Refer to the 'DISPLAYING AND CHANGING PROGRAM SETTINGS' section (page 29) for detailed setpoint adjustment and operation procedures.
