- Read Safe Handling Requirements
Before moving or installing the enclosure, read and follow all precautions in the Large Enclosure Safe Handling Requirements manual that accompanied the enclosure. Ensure the route is clear of obstructions and workers are at a safe distance.
- Prepare for Forklift Handling
Ensure the forklift operator is trained and authorized. Know the safe lifting capabilities of the equipment and verify it can handle the enclosure's weight and size by checking the product label and nameplate data. Position enclosures far back on the forks with the load against the carriage/mast, tilting the load backward towards the mast.
- Secure Enclosure for Forklift Transport
If using a forklift, secure the enclosure to the forklift mast before moving. For some models, insert a 3000 lb-rated chain or strap through the eye bolts provided on top of the enclosure and fasten securely to the forklift mast assembly. Ensure sufficient tension to prevent tipping. Do not use chains or straps for lifting, only for preventing tipping.
- Move Enclosure with Forklift
Start and stop the forklift slowly and gradually. Drive slowly with the forks carried as low to the ground as possible. Have a person assist the forklift operator at a safe distance to guide the enclosure.
- Prepare for Overhead Lifting
If using overhead lifting, attach rigging to the eye bolts, ensuring the angle between lifting cables and the vertical does not exceed 45 degrees. Use slings with adequate load-rated hooks or shackles. Ensure the load rating of the lifting device and rigging is sufficient for the enclosure's weight.
- Perform Overhead Lift
Select or adjust rigging lengths to compensate for any unequal weight distribution and to support the enclosure in an upright position. Do not allow the angle between lifting cables and the vertical to exceed 45 degrees.
