Overview

The nVent Sequestr External Disconnect Package (SKU: A84XD4018SSFTCLP) is a Type 4X stainless steel enclosure system designed to isolate incoming power for enhanced electrical safety during interior maintenance. This package includes a main enclosure (A28S4, 12-gauge Type 304 stainless steel) and the Sequestr external disconnect enclosure (A70DS), pre-assembled for new installations. The disconnect switch and fuse block/circuit breaker are factory-mounted, eliminating field assembly time. Constructed from 14-gauge Type 304 stainless steel with a #4 brushed finish, the enclosure resists non-corrosive and mildly corrosive environments for indoor/outdoor use. Continuously welded and ground-smooth seams ensure durability. The door interlock prevents opening the main control cabinet when the disconnect switch is powered on, while a mechanical interlock ensures the slave door cannot be opened first. A pass-through provision allows power to enter the main enclosure. Dimensions: 84.12 × 40.25 × 18.12 in (2137 × 1022 × 460 mm). Weight: 54.25 lb (24.6 kg). Additional clearance: 6.00 in (152 mm). Ideal for manufacturing plants, processing facilities, and utility infrastructure where arc flash hazard mitigation is critical.

How to Safely Handle and Install Large Hoffman Enclosures

This guide provides instructions for safely handling and installing large Hoffman enclosures, emphasizing precautions to prevent injury and equipment damage.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Forklift, Overhead lifting device (e.g., crane), Slings with load-rated hooks or shackles, ROLL•A•LIFT™ or similar device (for some models)

Supplies needed:

3000 lb.-rated chain or strap (for securing to forklift mast), Rigging equipment (for overhead lifting)

  1. Read Safe Handling Requirements

Before moving or installing the enclosure, thoroughly read and understand the 'Large Enclosure Safe Handling Requirements' document that accompanied the enclosure. Ensure the route is clear of obstructions and all personnel are at a safe distance.

  2. Prepare for Movement

Ensure the enclosure is stabilized before removing any strapping. Verify that the lifting equipment (forklift or overhead device) has a sufficient load rating for the enclosure's weight and size. Only trained and authorized personnel should operate the lifting equipment.

  3. Position Forklift Forks

For forklift handling, spread the forks to the maximum distance or as dictated by the skid width. Enter the skid from the rear (Side A) of the enclosure. Position the enclosure carefully on the forks, keeping the load against the carriage/mast and tilting the load backward towards the mast.

  4. Secure Enclosure to Forklift

If using a forklift, secure the enclosure to the forklift mast before moving. Insert a 3000 lb.-rated chain or strap through the eye bolts provided on top of the enclosure and fasten it securely to the forklift mast assembly. Ensure sufficient tension to prevent tipping.

  5. Lift and Transport Enclosure

Lift the enclosure a minimum distance so the skid is just clear of the floor. Start and stop the forklift slowly and gradually, avoiding jerky movements. Drive slowly with the forks carried as low to the ground as possible. Never attempt to move more than one enclosure at a time.

  6. End Loading/Unloading (if applicable)

For end loading/unloading on trailers, spread forks to match pallet end slot openings and enter from the narrow side (C or D). Secure the enclosure to the forklift mast using chains or straps. Tilt the mast to take weight off the opposite end and slide/push the enclosure as required. Do not use chains or straps to lift the enclosure.

  7. Overhead Lifting (if applicable)

If using overhead lifting, attach rigging to the eye bolts, ensuring the angle between lifting cables and the vertical does not exceed 45 degrees. Use slings with adequate load-rated hooks or shackles. Ensure the load rating of the lifting device and rigging is sufficient. Do not use ropes or cables through eye bolts.

  8. Final Placement

Once the enclosure is at its final location, carefully position it. Ensure it is stable and permanently installed according to any specific product instructions not covered in this general handling guide. Refer to the nameplate or datasheet for model-specific details.
