The main terminals, equipped with compression lugs or cable clamps, can be protected against accidental direct contact after wiring (EN 50274) by the addition of terminal shrouds (see table below). How to Apply AMPMODU MOD IV Receptacle Contacts and Housings
This guide details the proper procedures for preparing wire, crimping AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, and V receptacle contacts, and inserting them into compatible housings to ensure optimal electrical and mechanical performance.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Wire Strippers, Appropriate Hand Crimping Tool (e.g., TE P/N 91516-1, 90202-3, 91517-1, 91541-1, or 1901829-1, depending on wire size), Extraction Tool (e.g., TE P/N 843473-1, for repair)
Supplies needed:
AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, or V Receptacle Contacts, AMPMODU MOD IV Connector Housings, Insulated Wire (32-20 AWG), Keying Plugs (Optional)
- Prepare the Wire
Select the appropriate wire size (32-20 AWG) and strip the insulation to the length specified in Figure 2 of the application specification, based on the contact type. CAUTION: Do not nick, scrape, or cut the wire conductor during the stripping operation.
- Crimp the Receptacle Contact
Locate the receptacle contact in the appropriate hand crimping tool according to the tool's instructions. Insert the prepared wire into the contact and terminate it by crimping. CAUTION: Ensure the wire insulation is NOT cut or broken during crimping, nor shall the insulation be crimped into the contact wire barrel. The insulation barrel must firmly grip the insulation without cutting into it.
- Inspect the Crimped Contact
Visually inspect the crimped contact for proper formation. Verify that the crimp height, crimp length, and bellmouths conform to the dimensions provided in Figure 2 and Figure 3. Ensure the wire barrel seam is closed with no loose wire strands visible, and that both the wire conductor and insulation are visible in the transition area between the wire and insulation barrels. Check for any twist, roll, deformation, or damage to the mating portion of the contact (Figures 4, 5, 6, and 10).
- Insert Contact into Housing
Carefully insert the crimped contact into the desired position within the AMPMODU MOD IV connector housing. Push until the locking lance engages the housing and the contact is securely locked in place. Ensure the contact is fully seated and not damaged.
- Install Keying Plugs (Optional)
If polarization is required, install keying plugs into the designated housing positions or directly onto specific receptacle contacts. This will exclude an open receptacle contact or housing position from mating, preventing incorrect connections.
