How to Crimp and Install AMPMODU MOD IV Receptacle Contacts

This guide provides detailed instructions for preparing wires, crimping AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, and V receptacle contacts, and securely installing them into compatible AMPMODU MOD IV housings.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Wire Strippers, Hand Crimping Tool (refer to Figure 9 for specific model), Calipers

Supplies needed:

AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, or V Receptacle Contacts, AMPMODU MOD IV Housings, Wire (32-20 AWG)

  1. Prepare the Wire

Determine the correct strip length for your specific wire gauge and contact type by consulting Figure 2 in the application specification. Carefully strip the insulation from the wire to the specified length. CAUTION: Do not nick, scrape, or cut the wire conductor during the stripping operation.

  2. Crimp the Receptacle Contact

Select the appropriate hand crimping tool based on your wire size and contact type; refer to Figure 9 for specific tool part numbers and associated documentation. Position the contact in the crimping tool according to the tool's instructions. Insert the prepared wire into the contact's wire barrel until the insulation abuts the insulation barrel. Actuate the crimping tool to terminate the contact onto the wire. CAUTION: Ensure the wire insulation is not cut or broken, and the insulation is not crimped into the contact's wire barrel.

  3. Inspect the Crimped Contact

Visually inspect the crimped contact for proper formation. Verify that the crimp height and length are within the dimensions provided in Figure 2 and Figure 3. Confirm that front and rear bellmouths are evident and conform to Figure 3. Ensure the insulation barrel firmly grips the wire insulation without cutting or damaging it. Verify that both the wire conductor and insulation are visible in the transition area between the wire and insulation barrels (Figure 3). Check that the wire barrel seam is closed with no loose wire strands visible. Confirm there is no significant twist, roll, deformation, or excessive bending (Figures 4, 5, 6) in the mating portion of the contact.

  4. Insert Crimped Contact into Housing

Align the crimped contact with the desired cavity in the AMPMODU MOD IV housing. Push the contact into the housing until the locking lance engages and the contact is securely seated. Verify that the contact is locked in place and the housing is not cracked or damaged (Figure 10).
