Connector Assembly, Receptacle, Wire-to-Board, 2 Position, 2.54 mm [.1 in] Centerline, Crimp, 1 Row, Green, Wire & Cable, ERNI MaxiBridgeHow to Apply AMPMODU MOD IV Receptacle Contacts and Housings
This guide details the process for preparing wire, crimping AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, and V receptacle contacts, and inserting them into their corresponding housings, ensuring proper electrical and mechanical performance.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Wire Strippers, Crimping Tool (Hand Crimping Tool or Applicator), Extraction Tool (optional)
Supplies needed:
AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, or V Receptacle Contacts, AMPMODU MOD IV Connector Housings, Electrical Wire (32-20 AWG), Keying Plugs (optional)
- Prepare the Wire
Select the appropriate wire size between 32 and 20 AWG. Strip the wire insulation to the length specified in Figure 2 of the application specification, ensuring not to nick, scrape, or cut the wire conductor during the stripping operation. Refer to Figure 2 for specific strip lengths and acceptable insulation diameters based on wire gauge and contact type.
- Crimp the Receptacle Contact
Using the appropriate crimping tool (refer to Section 5, TOOLING, for options), position the prepared wire and receptacle contact. Crimp the contact, ensuring the wire insulation is NOT cut or broken and is not crimped into the contact wire barrel. Verify that the crimp height and length conform to the dimensions in Figure 2 and Figure 3, respectively. Ensure front and rear bellmouths are evident, the cutoff tab is correctly formed, and the insulation barrel firmly grips the insulation without cutting it. The wire conductor and insulation must be visible in the transition area, and the wire barrel seam must be closed.
- Insert Crimped Contact into Housing
Carefully insert the crimped receptacle contact into the desired position within the AMPMODU MOD IV housing. Ensure the locking lance engages properly to secure the contact in place. Verify that the contact is fully seated and no damage or distortion has occurred to the contact area or housing during insertion. If using keying plugs, insert them into the appropriate housing positions to prevent unintended mating.
