How to Install the FSOCLC9 OmniSplice Connector
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the FSOCLC9 OmniSplice Connector, ensuring proper termination of optical fibers.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter
Supplies needed:
Mounting screws, Terminal connectors, Lint-free wipes, Fiber cleaning solution
- Open the connector package
Gently push the tray bottom tab down while lifting the tray lid tab up to open the blister pack. Remove the connector assembly by the handling stick, avoiding contact with the fiber stub end.
- Prepare the fiber
Mark and strip approximately 35mm of buffer and acrylate from the fiber. Clean the bare fiber with lint-free wipes and fiber cleaning solution, following safety precautions.
- Cleave the fiber
Cleave the bare fiber to 10mm. Ensure all acrylate coating has been removed for a successful cleave.
- Insert the fiber into the splice machine
Place the cleaved fiber into the left-side fiber holder of the splice machine according to the specific instructions for your machine.
- Set up the OmniHolder
Place the OmniHolder on the right side of the splice stage. Ensure it is properly positioned for the splice process.
- Insert the connector assembly
Place the connector assembly into the OmniHolder with the fiber stub protruding to the left and the handling stick to the right. Ensure the metal portion is flush against the holder.
- Initiate the splice process
Close the wind cover of the splice stage. Depending on the machine, the splice process may start automatically or require pressing a start button.
- Complete the splice
After the splice is completed, wait for the machine to provide an estimated insertion loss value. Do not touch the fiber or connector assembly until the tension test is complete.
- Prepare for heating
Gently slide the splice protection sleeve up to the rear of the fiber holder and open the fiber holder.
- Heat the splice
Place the splice point in the heater of the splice machine, ensuring the splice protection sleeve is centered. Close the heater cover and start the heating process if required.
- Assemble the connector
Once the heating and cooling cycle is complete, carefully remove the assembly from the heating area. Align the side tabs and snap the front housing together with the rear housing.
- Finalize the installation
Cut off the handling stick to remove it from the dust cap if desired. Ensure the connector is fully assembled and ready for use.
