The NSI Industries SGB-38940 is a 3-1/2 inch split insulated grounding bushing designed for efficient installation after wire pulls. Constructed from durable zinc die cast, this bushing features an integrated grounding lug for superior ground continuity, ensuring a secure connection for copper or aluminum ground wires ranging from 6 AWG to 250 kcmil. The insulating nylon surface is rated for 150°C and covers the top of the bushing, including lug corners, to protect conductors. Its innovative design, part of the Blackjack® series, offers a cone-point mounting screw with a nylon locking patch to prevent loosening due to vibration, providing a secure grip on both threaded and non-threaded rigid conduits. This split design eliminates the need to burn through traditional bushings or struggle with pullers, saving significant time and labor during installation. The integral grounding lug is designed not to fall off or get lost, simplifying the installation process. By accommodating an extended range of ground wires and fitting both threaded and threadless conduits, the SGB-38940 helps reduce inventory needs by up to two-thirds. This bushing is UL File #E3060 and CSA File #LR2884 listed, conforming to UL 514B and UL 467, as well as CSA C22.2 No. 18 and CSA C22.2 No. 41 standards.

How to Install the Mighty-BOND™ Split Grounding/Bonding Bushing

Install the UL Listed Mighty-BOND™ Split Grounding/Bonding Bushing around conductors on threaded Rigid or Intermediate Metal Conduit (RMC/IMC) or fittings. This unique design allows installation after conductors are pulled, ensuring a code-compliant grounding solution.

Supplies needed:

Mighty-BOND™ Split Grounding/Bonding Bushing, Grounding or bonding conductor

  1. Position the Bushing

    Open the Mighty-Bond™ split bushing and place it around the conductors, positioning it onto the top of the threaded end of the RMC, IMC, or fitting.

  2. Close and Align the Bushing

    Close the Mighty-Bond™ bushing, ensuring the set screw is sufficiently backed out to allow the two halves to close fully on the threaded conduit or fitting. Align the bushing to access the set screw, grounding lug, and hinge screw. Make sure the bushing is as far down on the conduit or fitting threads as possible.

  3. Secure the Bushing

    Tighten the hinge screw first, then the set screw. If applicable, tighten the enclosure bonding screw. Tighten all these screws to UL Torque requirements of 35 in lb.

  4. Connect the Grounding Conductor

    Insert the appropriate sized grounding or bonding conductor into the lug. Tighten the lug screw to the UL Recommended torque based on the conductor's wire range (e.g., 35 in lbs for 10-14 AWG copper, 50 in lbs for 2/0-3 AWG copper).
