Overview

The NSI Industries SGB-387CL is a 2-1/2 inch threaded insulated grounding bushing designed for efficient wire pulling and reliable grounding. This split bushing allows for installation after the wire pull, eliminating the need to burn through traditional bushings or struggle with pullers, saving significant time and effort. Constructed from durable zinc die cast, it features an insulated design to protect conductors and prevent abrasion during wire pulls. The SGB-387CL accommodates a wire range from 14 AWG to 1/0 AWG, ensuring compatibility with a broad spectrum of grounding wires. Its integral grounding lug enhances ground continuity, providing a secure connection. The split design simplifies installation, especially in confined spaces or complex conduit runs, as it doesn't require threading onto the conduit. This feature also means no loose parts to manage, as the grounding lug is an integral part of the bushing. The insulating nylon surface is rated for 150°C, offering protection and durability. This bushing is listed by UL and CSA, conforming to UL 514B & UL 467 and CSA C22.2 No. 18 & CSA C22.2 No. 41 standards, assuring compliance and safety. Its innovative design improves performance and provides superior ground continuity, making it an ideal choice for electrical installations requiring robust grounding solutions.
  • Split design allows post-wire pull installation, saving time and effort.
  • Zinc die cast construction for durability.
  • Insulated design protects conductors and reduces abrasion.
  • Accommodates 14 AWG to 1/0 AWG wire range.
  • Integral grounding lug for enhanced ground continuity.

How to Install the Mighty-BOND™ Split Grounding/Bonding Bushing

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Mighty-BOND™ Split Grounding/Bonding Bushing, designed for use with threaded Rigid or Intermediate Metal Conduit and threaded fittings, even after conductors are pulled.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver

Supplies needed:

Mighty-BOND™ Split Grounding/Bonding Bushing, Grounding or bonding conductor

  1. Position the Bushing

Open the Mighty-Bond™ split bushing and carefully place it around the existing conductors. Position the bushing onto the threaded end of the Rigid Metal Conduit (RMC), Intermediate Metal Conduit (IMC), or fitting.

  2. Close and Align the Bushing

Close the two halves of the Mighty-Bond™ bushing. Ensure the set screw is sufficiently backed out to allow the halves to close fully on the conduit or fitting threads. Align the bushing to easily access the set screw, grounding lug, and hinge screw. Push the bushing as far down onto the conduit or fitting threads as possible.

  3. Secure the Bushing

First, tighten the hinge screw firmly. Next, tighten the set screw. If applicable, tighten the enclosure bonding screw. Ensure all these screws are tightened to the UL Torque requirement of 35 in-lb.

  4. Connect the Grounding Conductor

Insert the appropriately sized grounding or bonding conductor into the provided lug. Tighten the lug screw according to the UL Recommended torque specifications: 35 in-lb for 10-14 AWG copper/10-12 AWG aluminum, 40 in-lb for 8 AWG, 45 in-lb for 4-6 AWG, and 50 in-lb for 2/0-3 AWG.
