How to Install the Mighty-BOND™ Split Grounding/Bonding Bushing
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Patented, UL Listed Mighty-BOND™ Split Grounding/Bonding Bushing. Its unique design allows for installation around conductors already pulled through the raceway, ensuring compliance with NEC Articles 250.64, 250.92, 344.46, and 300.4(G).
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver
Supplies needed:
Mighty-BOND™ Split Grounding/Bonding Bushing, Grounding or bonding conductor
- Position the Bushing
Open the Mighty-Bond™ split bushing and carefully place it around the conductors. Position the bushing onto the top of the threaded end of the Rigid Metal Conduit (RMC), Intermediate Metal Conduit (IMC), or threaded fitting.
- Close and Align the Bushing Halves
Close the Mighty-Bond™ bushing halves, ensuring they are properly aligned to access the set screw, grounding lug, and hinge screw. Verify that the set screw has been backed out sufficiently to allow the two halves to close fully on the threaded conduit or fitting. Make sure the bushing is seated as far down on the conduit or fitting threads as possible.
- Secure the Bushing
First, tighten the hinge screw firmly. Next, tighten the set screw. If applicable, also tighten the enclosure bonding screw. Tighten all screws to the UL torque requirement of 35 in-lb to ensure a secure connection.
- Connect Grounding Conductor to Lug
Insert the appropriately sized grounding or bonding conductor into the lug. Tighten the lug screw to the UL recommended torque based on the wire range: 35 in-lb for 10-14 AWG copper/10-12 AWG aluminum, 40 in-lb for 8 AWG copper/aluminum, 45 in-lb for 4-6 AWG copper/aluminum, and 50 in-lb for 2/0-3 AWG copper/aluminum.
