Overview

The NSI Industries SC-4/0 is a standard barrel, tin-plated copper splice connector designed for reliable electrical connections. Manufactured from high-conductivity copper tubing, this splice ensures excellent electrical performance and durability. Its tin plating provides superior corrosion resistance, making it suitable for various industrial environments. The SC-4/0 features flared openings at both ends, facilitating easy insertion of flexible and extra-flexible copper cables, commonly used in applications like locomotive, welding, and mining. A positive center stop is integrated to ensure proper cable placement during installation. This connector is marked with a die index and color-coded (Purple) for quick and accurate identification, streamlining inventory management and installation processes. It is UL486A Listed and cULus Listed (155027), with a temperature rating of 90°C and a maximum voltage rating of 600V. Crucially, when properly installed according to cable manufacturer's voltage stress relief instructions, the SC-4/0 is suitable for use at voltages up to 35KV. For bare splices, the maximum voltage is 5KV. The SC-4/0 is designed for copper cables only and is compatible with ASTM Class H, Class M, and welding cable types. Its barrel dimensions are 0.689" O.D. and 0.547" I.D., with a length of 1.902". Each standard carton contains 25 units. Refer to page 87 of the NSI catalog for specific tool and die crimping information, and note that the expanded wire range is achievable when installed with the NSI N12ID dieless compression tool.

How to Install Copper Compression Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing copper compression connectors, ensuring secure and reliable electrical connections.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Wire strippers, Crimping tool, Wire brush

Supplies needed:

Copper compression connectors, Cable

  1. Strip the conductor

Carefully strip the insulation from the conductor without nicking the strands, ensuring the stripped length allows for complete insertion into the connector barrel.

  2. Clean the conductor

Use a wire brush to clean the stripped portion of the conductor, removing any oxide films to ensure a good electrical connection.

  3. Insert the conductor

Insert the cleaned and stripped conductor completely into the connector barrel, ensuring it fills the barrel fully.

  4. Crimp the connector

Using the appropriate crimping tool, apply pressure to crimp the connector securely onto the conductor, following the manufacturer's suggested crimp locations.

  5. Verify the connection

Inspect the crimped connection to ensure it is secure and that there are no visible gaps or loose strands.
