Install NSI PT, PTS, or PTO pin terminals by selecting the correct connector, preparing the conductor, and crimping it with the specified die and number of crimps. Follow the strip-length and tooling requirements for the exact catalog number being used.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Wire stripper, Wire brush, Crimping tool compatible with the specified NSI die or listed UL tool, Appropriate die set for the selected PT/PTS/PTO connector
Supplies needed:
NSI PT, PTS, or PTO pin terminal connector, Conductor/cable of the correct size, Electrical insulation as required by the installation
- Select the correct connector and tooling
Identify the exact PT, PTS, or PTO catalog number for the cable size you are installing, and verify the matching die number, strip length, and number of crimps from the chart. Use only the specified UL listed tool or approved crimping tool for that connector size.
- Strip and clean the conductor
Carefully strip the insulation to the specified length without nicking the strands. Wire brush the stripped conductor to remove oxide films, and make sure the conductor is clean before insertion.
- Insert the conductor fully into the barrel
Insert the stripped conductor completely into the connector barrel so it fills the barrel fully. Do not leave exposed strands outside the connector, and verify the conductor is seated all the way in before crimping.
- Crimp the connector with the specified die
Install the correct die in the crimping tool and crimp the connector the required number of times for the selected part number. Follow the table for the exact die index and crimp count, and ensure each crimp is made squarely and completely.
- Inspect the finished connection
Check that the connector is securely crimped, the conductor is fully retained, and no strands were damaged or left outside the barrel. If the installation will be energized, have a qualified electrician verify compliance with national and local electrical codes.
