Overview

NSI Industries L20N-141P is a high-conductivity copper compression lug engineered for reliable electrical terminations in industrial and commercial applications. Manufactured from premium copper tubing with a long barrel design, this two-hole lug ensures optimal conductivity and mechanical strength while incorporating a peep hole for visual inspection of cable insertion—critical for compliance and safety. The lug is tin-plated to provide corrosion resistance and low contact resistance, delivering consistent performance in harsh environments. It is marked with die index and color-coded for easy identification and proper tooling selection, reducing installation errors. The L20N-141P is rated for 600V and 90°C operation, meeting UL486A/B and cULus 486A/B standards, with a maximum voltage rating of 35KV when installed per manufacturer instructions. Specifically designed for 2/0 AWG copper cable, it features a 1/4" bolt size and 3/4" mounting hole spacing, ensuring compatibility with standard hardware. The lug is listed for applications exceeding 2000V, though users must follow cable manufacturer voltage stress relief guidelines. NSI Industries’ compression lugs are trusted in power distribution, renewable energy, industrial machinery, and other high-performance applications for their durability and compliance with NEC standards. The copper tubing construction ensures high conductivity, while the tin plating enhances corrosion resistance and maintains low contact resistance over time. The peep hole allows for quick verification of cable insertion depth, reducing the risk of improper terminations. The die index marking ensures compatibility with the correct compression tool, preventing installation errors. With a temperature rating of 90 degrees C, the lug is suitable for demanding environments where heat resistance is critical. The UL467 listing applies to sizes 6 AWG through 3/0 AWG, further validating its performance in high-voltage applications.

How to Install NSI Copper Compression Connectors

Install and crimp NSI copper compression lugs or splices on compatible copper conductors. This guide covers conductor preparation, connector selection, and proper crimping using approved tools and dies.

Tools needed:

Wire brush, Approved crimp tool, Approved dies (if using a die-type crimp tool), NSI N12ID dieless crimp tool or NSI N1240 tool (optional)

Supplies needed:

NSI copper compression connector or splice sized for the conductor, Compatible concentric, compressed, or compact copper conductor

  1. Select the correct connector

Choose a lug or splice that matches the cable size and application. Verify that the connector series and barrel style are compatible with the conductor and the crimp tool you plan to use.

  2. Prepare the conductor

Carefully strip the insulation without nicking the strands. Strip enough length so the conductor will fully insert into the barrel and completely fill it.

  3. Clean the stripped conductor

Wire brush the stripped portion of the conductor to remove oxide films. Ensure the conductor is clean before insertion.

  4. Insert the conductor fully

Insert the stripped conductor completely into the connector barrel. Verify that the conductor is fully seated and that no strands are left outside the barrel.

  5. Crimp the connector

Crimp the connector using an approved UL-listed tool and the correct die set for the connector size. Follow the barrel markings for suggested crimp locations, and make the required number of crimps; long-barrel lugs and splices require twice as many crimps as indicated in the table.

  6. Verify the finished connection

Inspect the crimped connection to confirm it is secure and properly formed. Make sure the conductor remains fully seated and that the connector is appropriate for the installed cable size.
