How to Install the MELTRIC PXN12c/DXN25c/DXN37c Plugs and Receptacles

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for safely installing and wiring MELTRIC PXN12c/DXN25c/DXN37c plugs and receptacles in hazardous areas.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter, KNIPEX crimping tool #61-CA500 or GREENLEE crimping tool #4CN30, Soldering iron (50W), Heat gun

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Terminal connectors, Heat shrink sleeves (part #9CP0250), Insulating sleeves (part #9SES201007301), Contact removal tool (part #9-LD12-37)

  1. Disconnect Power

Before starting the installation, ensure that all sources of power to the circuit are disconnected to eliminate the risk of electrical shock.

  2. Mount the Receptacle

Secure the receptacle to a suitable surface using the provided mounting screws. Ensure that the latch is positioned at the top for optimal operation.

  3. Prepare Conductors

Strip the conductors to a length of 8 mm (0.315 in). Ensure the conductors meet the appropriate gauge requirements as specified in Table 1.

  4. Crimp or Solder Contacts

Attach the contacts to the conductors by either crimping with the appropriate tool or soldering. If crimping, use a double crimp with a 90° rotation. If soldering, heat the terminal for about 30 seconds and insert solder wire until it penetrates by capillary action.

  5. Apply Heat Shrink Sleeves

Slide the heat shrink sleeve over the contact and conductor. Use a heat gun to evenly apply heat around the sleeve until it shrinks tightly around the terminal.

  6. Insert Contacts

Insert the wired contacts through the rear of the receptacle's interior molding. Push each contact fully home and verify proper engagement by pulling lightly.

  7. Connect the Plug

Align the plug guides with the receptacle and insert the plug. Turn the plug counter-clockwise until it is fully seated and the circuit is closed.

  8. Lock the Connection

Utilize a mechanical locking device to secure the connection and prevent accidental disconnection under load.

  9. Verify Connections

Use a multimeter to verify that all connections are secure and that there are no shorts before restoring power to the circuit.

  10. Reconnect Power

Once all connections have been verified, restore power to the circuit and test the operation of the plugs and receptacles.
