How to Install MELTRIC PN Series Plugs and Receptacles
Complete installation guide for wiring and mounting MELTRIC PN7c, PN20, and PNHT series electrical plugs and receptacles with proper safety procedures.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
3mm or 1/8 inch precision tip screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter
Supplies needed:
THHN wire (14-8 AWG for PN20/PNHT, 18-10 AWG for PN7c), Mounting screws, Watertight seals, Lock washers, Nuts
- Disconnect power and verify ratings
Disconnect all sources of power to the circuit to eliminate risk of electrical shock. Verify that product ratings are appropriate for the application and conductors meet code requirements within terminal capacities.
- Prepare cable and strip wires
Insert cable through handle and strip cable jacket to adequate length, ensuring jacket extends at least 1/2 inch into handle. Strip each conductor per Table 3 specifications (3/8 inch for PN20/PNHT, 5/16 inch for PN7c).
- Back out terminal screws
Back out terminal screws only far enough for conductor to clear. Do not remove screws completely from terminals.
- Connect conductors to terminals
Twist strands of each conductor together and insert fully into appropriate terminal following conductor coding in Table 5. Connect green grounding conductor to terminal marked 'G', 'E' or 'GND'.
- Tighten terminal screws
Tighten terminal screws to 8 in-lbs (0.9 N-m) torque using 3mm or 1/8 inch precision tip screwdriver. Avoid over-tightening as terminals are spring-assisted.
- Mount receptacle or assemble plug
For mounted receptacles: Assemble receptacle and color-coded gasket to box with appropriate hardware. For custom mounting: Use watertight seals under mounting bolt heads and secure with lock washers and nuts.
- Verify electrical continuity
Before energizing, verify electrical continuity of ground circuit and check that all connections are secure. Ensure cable weight is supported by strain relief mechanism, not terminal connections.
Frequently Asked Questions about Meltric
What certifications and standards do Meltric products comply with?
Meltric products are rigorously certified and comply with multiple critical industrial standards, including UL 2682, UL 508, UL 98, UL 1682, and CSA 22.2 No. 182.1.
