How to Install MELTRIC PN Series Plugs and Receptacles
Complete installation guide for wiring and mounting MELTRIC PN Series standard duty plugs and receptacles with proper safety procedures and electrical connections.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
3mm or 1/8" precision tip screwdriver, Wire strippers, Allen wrench
Supplies needed:
THHN wire (14-8 AWG for PN20/PNHT, 18-10 AWG for PN7c), Mounting screws, Watertight seals, Lock washers, Nuts
- Disconnect power and verify ratings
Disconnect all sources of power to the circuit to eliminate risk of electrical shock. Verify that product ratings are appropriate for the application and conductors meet code requirements within terminal capacities per Table 2.
- Strip cable jacket and insert through handle
Insert cable through handle and strip cable jacket to adequate length. The cable jacket should extend at least 1/2" into handle to ensure secure cord gripping.
- Prepare terminal screws
Back out terminal screws only far enough for conductor to clear. Do not remove terminal screws completely.
- Strip and prepare conductors
Strip each conductor per Table 3 specifications. Twist the strands of each conductor together to ensure proper connection.
- Connect conductors to terminals
Insert conductors fully into their respective terminals following conductor coding and terminal markings per Table 5. Ensure proper grounding connection using green screw and washer.
- Tighten terminal screws
Tighten terminal screws to 8 in-lbs (0.9 N-m) torque using 3mm or 1/8" precision tip screwdriver. Avoid over-tightening to prevent damage.
- Mount receptacle or assemble plug
For mounted receptacles: Assemble receptacle and color-coded gasket to box with appropriate hardware. For plugs: Complete assembly ensuring all connections are secure.
- Verify installation and test
Check mounting screws for tightness, verify cable weight is supported by strain relief mechanism, and test electrical continuity of ground circuit before energizing.
