How to Install the Single Phase Encapsulated Transformer

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the installation and initial setup of a single phase encapsulated transformer, ensuring safe and compliant operation.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Drill, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Lock washers, Flat washers, Rubber washers, Electrical joint compound

  1. Select and prepare the installation location

Choose a non-combustible surface that allows for adequate air circulation around the transformer. Ensure the area is clean and dry.

  2. Mount the transformer

Using the provided mounting template, drill the top two mounting holes. Lift the transformer into position and secure it with the top mounting bolts. Level the unit and mark the lower mounting holes, then install the lower mounting bolts with lock washers and rubber washers.

  3. Make electrical connections

Loosen the cover screw on the wiring compartment to access the terminals. Connect the input and output cables according to the nameplate diagram, ensuring all connections are clean and secure. Use electrical joint compound on all non-plated contacts.

  4. Ground the transformer

Connect the main ground wire to the designated ground location on the transformer, ensuring compliance with local electrical codes.

  5. Verify connections and perform initial checks

Before energizing, check all connections for tightness and ensure the insulation resistance is greater than 10MΩ. Confirm that the output voltage matches the nameplate specifications.

  6. Energize the transformer

Once all checks are complete and safety precautions are followed, energize the transformer and monitor for proper operation.
