How to Install the MSL4-024BAR-MSF MicroStat™ Status Indicator

Phillips head screwdriver, Drill, 1" hole saw, Wire strippers

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws (#6), Gasket or template, Reducer (if using 1/2" pipe)

  1. Prepare the unit for mounting

    Disassemble the MSL4-024BAR-MSF unit by twisting the bottom lens counter-clockwise to unlock and remove the entire stack of colored lenses. Retain all O-rings. Then, remove the two Phillips head #6 screws to disassemble the sleeve(s) from the base, keeping the printed circuit board attached to the sleeve(s). Retain any O-rings.

  2. Mount the base

    For pipe mounting, thread the MSL base onto a 3/4" NPT pipe. If using 1/2" pipe, a user-supplied reducer is required. For surface mounting, use the gasket or template to mark four mounting holes and a 1" center clearance hole on a flat surface. Drill the mounting holes with a #34 drill and the clearance hole with a 1" hole saw. Knock out the four surface mount holes at the bottom of the MSL base. Place the gasket on the surface, position the base over it, and secure with appropriate #6 screws. Do not overtighten.

  3. Make electrical connections

    Feed the control wires through the NPT opening in the base. Remove the terminal block plug from the printed circuit board assembly. Connect the control wires to the female terminal block plug, noting that terminals '1' through '5' correspond to lamp positions from bottom to top. Reconnect the female plug to the printed circuit board assembly. The maximum tightening torque for field wiring connections is 5 in-lb (0.56 N.m).

  4. Reassemble the unit

    Ensure an O-ring is in place on each module. Reattach the sleeve(s) to the base by sliding the printed circuit board into the base channels and fastening with the screws removed earlier. If desired, install optional light shields over the lamps by pressing them into place. Reassemble the colored lenses onto the base, ensuring an O-ring is between each lens for a watertight seal. Twist each lens clockwise until it locks. The lens color sequence is user-determined.

  5. Test the indicator

    After installation and reassembly, test the MSL4-024BAR-MSF MicroStat™ to ensure it operates as intended. Verify all screws and threaded joints are properly tightened. Provide a copy of this instruction sheet to operating personnel and establish a routine check procedure.
