How to Install the AV1-LED-120G Audio-Visual LED Light
Installation guide for mounting, wiring, and configuring the AV1-LED-120G Audio-Visual LED Light.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Small punch or drill bit (3/16"), Strap wrench (optional, for lens removal)
Supplies needed:
Mounting screws, Wire connectors, Gasket (included)
- Unpack and Inspect Device
Carefully unpack the AV1-LED-120G and inspect it for any signs of damage. Verify that all parts are present. If any part is missing or damaged, do not proceed with installation and contact Federal Signal Customer Support.
- Choose Mounting Location and Method
Select a mounting location and method (pipe mount, surface mount, or wall/corner mount using optional kits). Ensure the location is suitable for the device's Type 3R rain-tight rating and that wiring can be routed appropriately. For weatherproof installations, mount vertically with the lens facing upwards.
- Pipe Mount the Light
If pipe mounting, attach the light to a 1/2" NPT pipe by turning the light clockwise onto the pipe.
- Surface Mount the Light
If surface mounting, use the included gasket as a template or refer to the dimensions provided. Scribe three drill-position marks on the mounting surface. Drill a 3/16" (4.8 mm) diameter hole at the two outer marks for mounting screws and a 3/4" (19.1 mm) diameter hole at the center mark for wire entry. Remove appropriate knockouts in the lower housing. Center the gasket and lower housing over the prepared holes and secure the light to the mounting surface using the two mounting screws.
- Wire the Light (Single Power Supply)
Disconnect power to the system. Remove the upper housing by unscrewing the three #8 screws. Remove the factory leads from the terminal block. Route supply wires of the appropriate gauge into the housing. Strip a maximum of 1/4" (6.4 mm) of insulation from the wire ends. Insert the stripped ends into the terminal block connectors and tighten the clamping screws (max torque 4.5 in-lb or 0.5 Nm). Reassemble the upper housing.
- Wire the Light (Separate Power Supplies)
Disconnect power to the system. Remove the upper housing by unscrewing the three #8 screws. Remove the factory leads from the terminal block. Route separate supply wires for the light and sounder into the housing. Strip a maximum of 1/4" (6.4 mm) of insulation from the wire ends. Insert the stripped ends into the appropriate terminal block connectors and tighten the clamping screws (max torque 4.5 in-lb or 0.5 Nm). If necessary, combine two neutral wires into one terminal. Reassemble the upper housing.
- Configure Jumpers
Access the power PCBA inside the housing. Adjust jumpers J3 (Flash Rate: fast/slow), J4 (LED: intermittent/continuous), and J5 (Sounder: intermittent/continuous) to achieve the desired operating mode. Note that continuous operation of the sounder is not recommended for longevity.
- Restore Power and Test
Reassemble the light completely, ensuring all screws and the lens are secured. Restore power to the system and test the AV1-LED-120G to verify proper operation of the light and sounder, and that the selected configurations are active.
