Overview

The Federal Signal 6H Air Horn (SKU: 6H) is engineered to deliver high-volume, piercing sound for critical industrial signaling applications. This robust unit features a substantial 5-inch diameter diaphragm constructed from durable stainless steel, housed within a rugged cast aluminum enclosure. Designed for exceptional reliability, even in demanding environments, the 6H operates on a 120VAC power supply. Its activation mechanism relies on compressed air, with an operational pressure range spanning from 20 to 150 PSI. For optimal performance and consistent signaling, the horn is specifically tuned for operation within the 80 to 90 PSI range. The 6H is protected by a Type 4X enclosure, providing superior resistance to dust, water ingress, and corrosion, making it an ideal choice for both indoor and outdoor installations. The horn's design incorporates a flanged mounting system, ensuring a secure and stable installation. Activation of the compressed air is managed through a 120VAC air valve, such as the Model EVL-120, which is available separately. The sound output is characterized by a frequency of 295Hz and an impressive 122 dB level measured at 10 feet, guaranteeing clear and attention-grabbing alerts even in the most challenging and noisy industrial settings. Constructed for longevity and resilience, the 6H weighs 9.7 lbs and has a length of 12.38 inches. The combination of its corrosion-resistant aluminum housing and the long-lasting stainless steel diaphragm ensures it can withstand rigorous industrial use. This air horn is perfectly suited for a wide array of signaling needs, including machinery alerts, vital safety system notifications, and event announcements. The 6H meets stringent industrial standards and is designed for seamless integration into existing safety protocols. Its construction prioritizes minimal maintenance requirements and maximum operational uptime, even when subjected to high-vibration or high-moisture conditions. The wide variety of tones and sizes available in the Federal Signal air horn line ensures a perfect fit for diverse industrial signaling requirements.

How to Install the eHorn-HV Electronic Horn

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring the eHorn-HV electronic horn for optimal performance.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter, 7/16" socket, 3/8" socket, 1/4" socket, 6" extension

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Terminal connectors, Grommets, Bushings, Wire ties

  1. Mount the eHorn-HV

Hold the eHorn-HV against the mounting surface and use the four mounting holes on the bracket as a template. Scribe drill-position marks on the mounting surface, drill holes at each mark, and secure the eHorn-HV using installer-supplied 1/4" screws.

  2. Open the housing

Remove the four 1/4"-20 locknuts on the bracket assembly and the four 1/4"-20 hex head screws from the back of the bracket assembly. Loosen the four cover screws while supporting the housing to prevent it from falling.

  3. Wire the eHorn-HV

Ensure power is off to avoid electrical shock. Connect the red wire to the positive terminal and the black wire to the negative terminal on the Aptiv connector. Use grommets and bushings to protect the wires from abrasion.

  4. Select the tone

To select the desired tone, move the jumper on the tone generator/amplifier board according to the specifications provided in the manual.

  5. Close the housing

Verify that the cover gasket is in place, align the housing with the cover, and tighten the cover screws hand tight. Torque the screws to 60 in-lb ± 10 in-lb.

  6. Activate the horn

Apply the appropriate line voltage to the horn power input connector to activate the horn. Ensure that the horn remains active as long as line voltage is present.
