Frequently Asked Questions
What does the IP69K rating signify?
The IP69K rating ensures protection from close-range, powerful, high-temperature water jets and prevents any ingress of dust.
What applications are suitable for IP69K products?
IP69K products are ideal for applications requiring sanitation and cleanliness, including Food and Beverage, Wastewater, Pharmaceutical, Marine, and Medical Facilities.
How does IP69K differ from NEMA Type 4?
IP69K protects against close-range, high-pressure, high-temperature water jets and is dust-tight. NEMA Type 4 protects from high volume, low pressure water at long distances.
What tests do IP69K products undergo?
Products are dust-tight tested in an Arizona A2 Dust chamber and undergo high-pressure steam jet cleaning with water sprays of 1160–1450 psi at 176°F (80°C).
What are the benefits of using IP69K compliant products?
IP69K products reduce failures from water/dust ingress, increasing productivity and decreasing production downtime in harsh environments.
What certifications do Federal Signal IP69K products hold?
In addition to IP69K, these products meet or exceed UL, CSA, CSFM, IECEx, and other global certifications. Federal Signal is also ISO 9001 Certified.
Is the 371DST suitable for hazardous locations?
Yes, the Model 371DST Commander® Double Strobe is specifically listed under Federal Signal's Hazardous Location products.
What is the IP rating for this product?
This product is IP69K rated, which is the highest standard on the Ingress Protection (IP) rating scale.
How to Install the 371DST Strobe Light
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and wiring the 371DST Strobe Light in hazardous locations.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Drill, Multimeter
Supplies needed:
Mounting screws, Washers, Terminal connectors, 1” NPT conduit hub, 1” NPT close-up plug
- Unpack and Inspect the Light
Carefully unpack the 371DST Strobe Light and inspect it for any damage that may have occurred during transit. If damaged, do not install and file a claim with the carrier.
- Mount the Light
Choose a flat horizontal surface or a 1” NPT pipe for mounting. For surface mounting, use the gasket as a template to mark and drill four 9/32” holes for screws and one 1-3/8” hole for wire entry. Secure the light using the provided screws and washers.
- Make Electrical Connections
Disassemble the light by removing the dome assembly and strobe-spinning assembly. Route the supply wires into the housing, strip 0.28” of insulation from the ends, and connect them to the terminal block, ensuring proper polarity for DC models. Connect the earth ground to the terminal block.
- Reassemble and Test the Light
Reassemble the light by securing the strobe-spinning assembly and dome. Ensure the dome is tightly closed. Turn on the power and test the light to confirm it operates correctly.
- Establish Maintenance Procedures
After installation, provide a copy of the instruction sheet to all operating personnel and establish a routine check procedure to ensure the light installation remains intact and functions properly.
