How to Install the 31X Explosion-Proof Horn
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and wiring the 31X Explosion-Proof Horn in hazardous locations.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Mallet, 1/8" Hex Wrench, 1/4" Wrench
Supplies needed:
Mounting screws, 3/4" pipe, Terminal connectors
- Unpack and Inspect the Horn
Carefully unpack the 31X horn and inspect it for any damage that may have occurred during transit. If damaged, do not install and file a claim with the carrier.
- Mount the Horn
Securely mount the horn on a rigid surface using user-supplied hardware. Ensure that the mating threads are clean and thread a 3/4" pipe into the horn outlet box.
- Make Electrical Connections
Ensure power is off before connecting wires. Remove the set screw from the collar using a 1/8" hex wrench, then rotate the collar counterclockwise to remove it. Lift the horn mechanism from the housing and connect the fixture wires to the supply wires according to local building codes. Replace the horn mechanism and collar, tightening securely.
- Adjust Volume (if necessary)
If volume adjustment is needed, remove the horn mechanism again. Use a 1/4" wrench to turn the adjustment screw clockwise to increase volume. Replace the mechanism and collar as previously described.
- Final Checks
After installation, ensure all bolts and threaded joints are tightened. Establish a procedure for routine checks of the sound system for proper activation and operation.
