How to Install the 314X-024-CN Explosion-Proof Amplified Speaker
Installation guide for mounting and wiring the 314X-024-CN explosion-proof amplified speaker. Ensure proper safety precautions are followed.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Drill, Wrench
Supplies needed:
Mounting bolts, Lockwashers, Hex nuts, Tone Card (sold separately), Connector Card (sold separately)
- Unpack and Inspect Speaker
Carefully unpack the 314X-024-CN speaker and inspect it for any damage that may have occurred during transit. If damaged, file a claim with the carrier immediately and do not attempt installation.
- Prepare for Mounting
Remove the two 1/2"-13 hex-head bolts, flat washers, and lockwashers securing the mounting bracket to the speaker. Disconnect the lanyard from the mounting bracket at the cotter ring.
- Select Mounting Location
Choose a mounting location on a flat surface capable of supporting the speaker's weight. Ensure the front of the speaker is clear of obstructions for optimal sound distribution. Mount the speaker so the projector is pointed horizontally or slightly downward to prevent water or debris accumulation.
- Mark and Drill Mounting Holes
Use the mounting bracket as a template to scribe drill position marks on the mounting surface. Drill 1/2" diameter holes at the scribed marks, ensuring both sides of the surface are clear before drilling.
- Secure Mounting Bracket
Attach the mounting bracket to the surface using 1/2" diameter hex-head bolts, lockwashers, and hex nuts. Ensure the bracket is securely fastened.
- Attach Speaker to Bracket
Reattach the speaker to the mounting bracket using the two 1/2"-13 hex-head bolts, flat washers, and lockwashers. Position the speaker for the required sound coverage and tighten the bolts securely.
- Secure Lanyard
Reattach the lanyard to the cotter ring and mounting bracket. Verify that it is securely attached to both the cover and the mounting bracket.
- Route Wiring
Route wires through the 1/2" NPT threaded openings into the SelecTone unit in accordance with national and local electrical and fire codes. Wire size depends on operating current and distance from the power source. Do not connect wires when power is on.
- Install Tone or Connector Card
Loosen and remove the threaded cover by turning it counter-clockwise. Plug the tone card (UTM) or connector card (purchased separately) into the socket. Rotate the card retainer into position to hold the card in place. Ensure sealing surfaces are not damaged.
- Connect Power Leads
Connect the positive (+) power-source lead to the terminal block labeled L+. Connect the negative (–) power-source lead to the terminal block labeled N–. Connect additional leads to the next speaker or end-of-line device as required. Ensure independent conductors are terminated separately for electrical supervision.
- Connect Audio Leads (if applicable)
If using a connector card for voice messages, connect one pair of white leads to the audio output of the fire alarm panel and the other pair to the next speaker or a contact on the power supervision relay and an end-of-line device. Consult the authority having jurisdiction for proper EOL resistor and supervision relay application.
- Reinstall Housing Cover
Carefully reinstall the housing cover and tighten it until the cover flange makes contact with the housing. Tighten the set screw on the cover to secure it. Verify that the mounting bolts are securely tightened. The housing cover must be kept tight while circuits are energized to reduce explosion risk.
- Test Speaker Operation
After installation, test the system to verify each speaker operates satisfactorily. If the volume is too loud, remove the cover, insert a screwdriver into the volume control, and turn counter-clockwise to decrease loudness. Reinstall the housing cover.
