Overview

VLT® Midi Drive FC 280 — Compact, communicative and easy to use. Aimed at machine builders needing a small cabinet footprint with fieldbus built in rather than added on a card. This unit is rated 4.2 A continuous, frame K1 on a 3 x 200/240V AC supply. Supplied as a protected chassis for mounting inside a control panel or switchgear lineup, which is the usual arrangement where several drives share one enclosure and its cooling. Filtering is rated for the second environment (industrial supplies with their own transformer). On a network shared with residential or light-commercial loads, additional filtering is required. A brake chopper is fitted, so an external brake resistor can absorb the energy a load returns during deceleration. This is what allows fast stops on high-inertia and overhauling loads — centrifuges, hoists, unwinders and fast-cycling conveyors — without tripping on DC-link overvoltage. Supplied without a local control panel, for installations operated entirely from a PLC or a door-mounted HMI. A panel can be added later, and one panel can serve several drives during commissioning. Communicates over Modbus RTU, which needs only a shielded twisted pair and no option card. Danfoss drives are configured rather than stocked as fixed catalogue items: the type code FC-280PK75T2E20H2BXCXXXSXXXXAX describes this exact build, and 134U7944 is the quick order number Danfoss issues for it. Other valid configurations can be built to order.

The FENA 21 DualPort module supports Three protocols Modbus-TCP, EtherNet/IP, and the PROFInet IO RT network. The Modbus-TCP protocol is simply the Modbus protocol used on top of Ethernet-TCP/IP. Modbus-TCP is an open Industrial Ethernet network which has been specified by the Modbus-IDA User Organization. EtherNet/IP is based on the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP), which is also the framework for both the ControlNet and DeviceNet network protocols. PROFInet IO RT is an open network based on the PI Organization standard.
