The joint is designed to accommodate longitudinal movement in conduit runs due to thermal expansion and contraction, ensuring a continuous electrical path without external bonding.

Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT)
- Insert EMT Tubing
Insert the Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) into each end of the XJG-EMT Expansion Joint. The joint is delivered pre-assembled with the gland nut partially tightened from the factory to facilitate easy insertion of the tubing.
- Tighten the Gland Nut
Using a pipe wrench, tighten the gland nut at the end of the EMT connector. This action compresses the Teflon packing around the tubing, creating a rain-tight seal. Refer to the Torque Chart for correct torque: 3/4” & Smaller (90.4 N•m / 800 lbl-in), 1”, 1-1/4”, & 1-1/2” (113 N•m / 1000 lbl-in), 2” & Larger (181 N•m / 1600 lbl-in).
- Position the Internal Bushing
Position the internal bushing in the middle of the expansion joint fitting. This ensures that the conduit can move equally in both directions, accommodating the full range of linear movement (4 or 8 inches total movement depending on the model).
