Overview

The ABB WR229 Wide Range H-Type Compression Connector is a high-integrity aluminum compression connector designed for overhead and underground power distribution systems. This connector accommodates a main conductor range of 2/0 AWG ACSR and 3/0 to 2/0 AWG stranded conductors, with a tap range of 1/0 AWG to 2 AWG ACSR and 1/0 AWG to 1 AWG stranded conductors. The WR229 is part of ABB’s Installation Products line, ensuring compatibility with standard utility-grade conductors and reliable long-term performance in harsh environments. Engineered for versatility, the WR229 uses a compression-type connection, delivering low-resistance joints that meet or exceed utility industry standards for electrical continuity and mechanical strength. The H-Type design provides a secure, vibration-resistant interface between main and tap conductors, reducing the risk of loosening or arcing over time. This connector is ideal for applications such as distribution transformers, pole-mounted switches, sectionalizers, and line taps where multiple conductor sizes must be joined efficiently. The connector is manufactured from high-strength aluminum alloy, offering excellent corrosion resistance and conductivity. It is compatible with standard compression tools and dies (Die D and D3), ensuring consistent installation across utility fleets. The WR229 is a cost-effective solution for utility crews needing a single connector type to handle multiple conductor configurations, reducing inventory complexity and improving operational efficiency. Key benefits include reduced installation time, elimination of conductor mismatching issues, and compliance with ANSI C119.4 and IEEE 48 standards for compression connectors. It is suitable for both new installations and maintenance operations in overhead and underground systems.
