This guide provides instructions for installing the Flood Seal Submersible Splice Cover FSS 20 & FSS 20L, designed to create watertight, insulated splice joints for low voltage cables in direct buried, underground, and overhead applications. Installation must be performed by trained installers following all applicable electrical codes and safety rules.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Utility knife, Wire strippers
Supplies needed:
Silicon grease, Electrical connector, Silicone sealant
- Select and Cut the Rocket Sleeve and Cap
Select the correct cut-off ring on the rocket sleeve and cap based on the cable size being used (e.g., #14 to #8, #8 to #4, or #4 to 1/0). Cut off the rocket sleeve and cap at the tip of the arrow, ensuring the correct cable size marking remains visible on the opened rocket and cap.
- Prepare Cable Insulation
Bevel or pencil the cable insulation by 1/4 inch (6mm) to facilitate easier installation of the splice cover.
- Apply Grease and Slide Sleeve
Apply silicon grease to the prepared cable insulation. Carefully slide the cut rocket sleeve and cap over the prepared cable end.
- Install the Connector
Install the appropriate electrical connector onto the prepared cable ends, ensuring a secure and proper connection.
- Seal the Splice Housing
Apply silicone sealant to the open edge of the rocket sleeve. Carefully slide the two halves of the Flood Seal Housing together, centering it precisely over the installed connection to create a watertight seal.
