How to Install the STX050-462 Star Teck Cable Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for preparing your cable and installing the STX050-462 Star Teck cable fitting, including options for liquid or putty sealing compounds for hazardous locations.

SC4-KIT-1 LIQUID SEALANT (if using liquid compound), SC65 PUTTY SEALANT (if using putty compound), Fiber damming material (if using liquid compound), Cable (compatible with STX050-462)
- De-energize Circuits and Review Safety
Before starting installation or maintenance, verify that all circuits are de-energized to prevent electrical shock. Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician according to national and local electrical codes.
- Prepare Cable Armor
Determine the required conductor length inside the enclosure. Remove the outer jacket to expose the cable armor, then cut the armor using a hacksaw. Carefully trim the outer jacket to achieve an exposed armor strip length of 0.405 inches for the STX050-462, avoiding nicks to conductor insulation.
- Install Gland Nut and Secure Cable
Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening until the cable armor firmly contacts the end stop. Tighten the gland nut to a maximum torque of 300 IN-LBS or until an appropriate seal is achieved. Ensure the bushing and collar ring seal evenly around the cable's outer jacket and the cable remains centered for optimal sealing.
- Disassemble Fitting for Sealing
Loosen the union to separate the hub from the body sub-assembly. Unscrew the sealing chamber from the body sub-assembly.
- Prepare Conductors for Sealing
Prepare conductors for sealing. For power cables, trim the inner jacket to a length of 1/8” to 3/8” to expose the conductor bundle. For shielded data cables, trim the inner jacket to 1/8” to 3/8” to expose the shielded conductor bundle. Carefully remove the outer (overall) shield and any filler materials, ensuring inner shields and conductors are not damaged.
- Apply Sealing Compound (Choose One Method)
Apply the appropriate sealing compound. For SC4-KIT-1 Liquid Sealant: Pack fiber damming material tightly into all voids. Screw the sealing chamber back onto the body sub-assembly. Position the cable/fitting vertically. Mix and dispense liquid compound into the sealing chamber until full. Remove excess compound from outside with a damp cloth. For SC65 Putty Sealant (not for shielded cables or 5+ conductors): Spread conductors slightly. Thoroughly mix two parts of putty until uniform blue (usable life 30 min at 70°F/21°C). Apply putty between and around conductors to form a plug. Slide sealing chamber onto cable/compound and screw to body. Fill throat area, packing tightly with a wooden dowel. Remove excess compound with a damp cloth. Wear gloves and proper PPE.
- Final Assembly and Compound Setting
Mount the hub in the desired location. Once the sealing compound has solidified (approximately 1 hour), place the encapsulated assembly into the hub and secure it by tightening the union until it bottoms (metal to metal contact). If using putty, repack compound tightly around conductors if necessary, and allow it to set for approximately one hour before disturbing conductors.
