This guide provides step-by-step instructions for preparing your cable, assembling the STEX100 fitting, and properly sealing it using either liquid (SC4-KIT-1) or putty (SC65) compound for hazardous locations.

Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Wooden dowel (for putty sealant)
Supplies needed:
STEX100 cable fitting, Appropriate cable, SC4-KIT-1 LIQUID SEALANT (1 unit), SC65 PUTTY SEALANT (1 unit), Fiber damming material (for liquid sealant), Gloves (for putty sealant)
- De-energize Circuits
WARNING: Risk of electrical shock. Before installing or performing maintenance, verify that all circuits are de-energized. Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
- Prepare the Cable
Determine the working length of conductors required inside the enclosure or device. Remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the armor, then cut the armor using a hacksaw. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation.
- Trim Outer Jacket
Trim the outer jacket to expose the armor strip length between 0.860 and 1.205 inches, as indicated for the STEX100 fitting.
- Check and Remove Armor Stop (if necessary)
Test the inner conductor bundle by inserting conductor ends into the armor stop opening. If the inner conductor bundle will not pass through, unscrew and discard the Armor Stop.
- Feed Cable and Secure Gland Nut
Feed the cable through the gland nut opening and push until the cable armor hits the Armor Stop. Tighten the gland nut to a maximum torque of 700 in-lbs or until an appropriate seal is obtained. Ensure the cable remains centered for an optimal seal.
- Disassemble Fitting for Sealing
Disassemble the hub from the body sub-assembly by loosening the union. Unscrew the sealing chamber from the body sub-assembly. If the Removable Armor Stop was not removed in Step 4, unscrew and discard it now.
- Prepare Inner Conductors
Trim the inner jacket to a length of 1/8 to 3/8 inches to expose the conductor bundle. For shielded data cables, additionally remove the outer (overall) shield and filler materials, taking care not to nick or damage inner shields.
- Apply Sealing Compound (Choose ONE Method)
Choose either the liquid-type (SC4-KIT-1) or putty-type (SC65) sealing compound method below. Do NOT use SC65 for shielded cables or cables with 5 or more conductors including ground. For SC4-KIT-1: Pack fiber damming material tightly into all voids. Screw the sealing chamber back onto the body. Position the cable/fitting vertically. Mix compound per package instructions and dispense into the sealing chamber until level, filling to the top for STEX100. For SC65: Spread insulated conductors slightly. WARNING: Wear gloves and proper PPE. Thoroughly mix the two parts of compound until uniform blue. Apply compound around conductors to form a plug approximately equal to the sealing chamber's inner diameter and length. Slide the sealing chamber onto the cable/compound and screw to the body. Fill the throat area with compound, packing tightly with a wooden dowel.
- Clean Excess Compound
CAUTION: Remove all excess compound material from outside of the sealing chamber with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners such as powder cleaners, sandpaper, steel wool, or a wire brush that may damage the flame path.
- Mount Hub and Finalize Assembly
Allow the sealing compound to solidify (approximately 1 hour for both types). Mount the hub in the desired location. Place the encapsulated assembly into the hub and secure it in position by tightening the union until it bottoms (metal-to-metal contact). If using putty, repack compound tightly around conductors if required before allowing it to set.
