Overview

The ABB ST200-475SS Star Teck stainless steel jacketed cable fitting is a high-integrity termination solution for Teck and ACWU cables in industrial environments. Designed for hub size 2 inches (NPT), this fitting accommodates jacket diameters from 2.300 to 2.565 inches, ensuring compatibility with a broad range of cable sizes. The fitting features a splined gland for superior grip, positioning the retention high on the cable—not on the first convolution—eliminating the need for precise strip length or cutting. This design simplifies installation and reduces labor time while maintaining reliable performance. Key features include a stainless steel retaining ring for corrosion resistance and non-magnetic properties, ideal for harsh or chemically aggressive environments. The Power-Grip grounding ring provides 360° long-term grounding with immediate contact to the cable, ensuring dependable electrical continuity. A tapered bushing cone shape delivers a secure, watertight seal, preventing cupping or water ingress in vertical installations. The low-profile gland nut is engineered for tight spaces, offering grooves for screwdriver installation and flats for wrench use. It is durable, reusable, and includes a funnel entry for effortless cable insertion. The ST200-475SS is suitable for hazardous locations including Class 1 Div. 2, Class II Div. 2, and Class III environments. It is part of the Star Teck series, which spans hub sizes from 0.5 to 4 inches and jacket diameters from 0.525 to 4.340 inches. The fitting’s robust construction and design make it ideal for industrial applications requiring secure, long-lasting cable terminations in corrosive, wet, or explosive-risk areas.

How to Install Star Teck Cable Fittings (ST200-475SS Series)

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Star Teck cable fittings, including proper cable preparation and achieving an optimal seal. Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician.

Estimated time: 20m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Torque wrench, Measuring tape

Supplies needed:

Star Teck Cable Fitting (e.g., ST200-475SS), Armored Cable

  1. Select the Appropriate Cable Fitting

Choose the correct Star Teck cable fitting that matches the enclosure and the specific armored cable being used. Refer to the product table in the instruction sheet for compatibility based on cable jacket and armor ranges.

  2. Prepare the Armored Cable

WARNING: Disconnect power before installation to avoid risk of shock. Determine the required working length of the conductor inside the enclosure or device. Carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Using a hacksaw, cut the armor to the specified strip length as indicated in the product table. Trim the outer jacket to adjust the exposed armor length. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation during this process.

  3. Insert Cable into Fitting

Feed the prepared armored cable through the gland nut opening of the fitting. Push the cable until its armor firmly hits the internal end stop of the fitting, as shown in Figure 3 of the instruction sheet.

  4. Tighten the Gland Nut

Tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is achieved or to the maximum torque specified in the product table. Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable's outer jacket and that the cable remains centered within the fitting for an optimal, secure seal, as depicted in Figure 4.
