Molded Junction Box, Length 4 Inch x Width 4 Inch x Depth 2 Inch, Material Polycarbonate, Color GrayHow to Install the PA60 Pin Adapter
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the PA60 Pin Adapter to reliably terminate 600 MCM stranded aluminum conductors with a copper pig-tail in suitable mechanical connectors.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Compression tool, Dies (YELLOW 115H for PA60), Wire strippers, Wire brush, Screwdriver or Wrench
Supplies needed:
PA60 Pin Adapter, 600 MCM stranded aluminum conductor, Mated insulating cover (supplied with adapter), Mechanical equipment connector
- Disconnect Power and Select Adapter
WARNING: Disconnect all power before beginning installation to prevent risk of electrical shock. Select the PA60 Pin Adapter, ensuring it is marked for 600 MCM aluminum wire size.
- Verify Connector Compatibility and Prepare Cable
Check the copper pig-tail length against the equipment connector for sufficient contact. Verify the mated insulating cover's diameter and ensure adequate wire bending space as per NEC Table 312.6(A). Bend the 600 MCM aluminum cable to fit the equipment before proceeding.
- Prepare Aluminum Conductor
Strip the insulation from the 600 MCM aluminum conductor to the length specified in column 'A' of the table (1.875 inches for PA60), ensuring not to nick or ring the strands. Thoroughly scratch brush the stripped aluminum conductor to remove any oxide film.
- Crimp Pin Adapter to Conductor
Fully insert the prepared aluminum conductor into the compression barrel of the PA60. Using a compression tool with the YELLOW 115H die, make 3 crimps. Ensure crimps are made adjacent to each other between knurl or ink marks, compressing from the base of the socket toward the cable. Remove any flash or excess inhibitor.
- Install Insulating Cover
After crimping, slip the supplied insulating cover completely over the compression barrel of the PA60. This cover ensures that minimum electrical spacing requirements are maintained.
- Connect Copper Pig-tail
Insert the copper pig-tail fully into the mechanical equipment connector body. Using a screwdriver or wrench, tighten the set screw to the equipment manufacturer's recommended torque. If no specific torque is provided, tighten to 300 INCH-LBS as listed in the PA60 specification table.
