How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connectors, ensuring high performance and reliability in electrical installations.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Metal jig, Hacksaw, Power band saw, Smooth jaw wrench, Torque wrench

Supplies needed:

Liquidtight flexible metal conduit, Gland nut, Nylon sealing ring, Safe Edge™ Cone, Locknut, Sealing gasket, PVC cement

  1. Prepare for Installation and Cut Conduit

WARNING: Disconnect power before installation to avoid risk of shock. CAUTION: Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Wear hand protection and eye protection. Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end using a metal jig, a 32 Tooth/In. sharp hacksaw, or a 24-32 Tooth/In. wavy set power band saw (not exceeding 400’/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel.

  2. Assemble Connector Components onto Conduit

For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, first slide the gland nut onto the conduit. Next, slide on the nylon sealing ring. Finally, thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone onto the conduit end.

  3. Install Connector Body into Knockout Box

Insert the connector body through the knockout hole from the outside of the electrical box. For knockout applications, secure the connector by placing a T&B 140 series locknut and a 5260 series sealing gasket on the inside of the box. Ensure any captive 'O' ring (e.g., 5371 series) is correctly positioned on the outside of the box.

  4. Tighten the Gland Nut

Tighten the gland nut to the specified torque using a torque wrench. Refer to the torque table provided in the documentation (e.g., 3/8" requires 200 lb.-in., 1/2" requires 300 lb.-in., 1" requires 700 lb.-in.).

  5. Handle PVC Coated Connectors

If installing a PVC coated connector, tighten it using a smooth jaw wrench to prevent damage to the coating. If gouging occurs and exposes metal, apply PVC cement to the damaged area for maximum corrosion protection.

  6. Assemble Chase® Connectors (If Applicable)

For 'Space Saver' Chase® connector assemblies, the lock-up can be achieved by either tightening the Chase® Nipple to the connector body or by turning the connector body onto the Chase® Nipple until secure.
