How to Install the LRT Series Dead Front Connector

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation and wiring of the LRT Series Dead Front Connector, ensuring secure and correct cable connections. Installation must be performed by trained installers in accordance with all applicable electrical codes and safety rules.

Tools needed:

Hex wrench

Supplies needed:

LRT connector body, Threaded stud, Clear LRT insulator, Electrical cable, Screws

  1. Mount the LRT Connector Body

Place the bare LRT connector body onto the threaded stud, ensuring proper cable training for left-hand, right-hand, or centered installation. Tighten the stud set screw to 300 in./lbs.

  2. Position the Insulator

Position the clear LRT insulator according to the desired left-hand, right-hand, or centered installation configuration. Push the insulator as far back onto the transformer bushing as possible.

  3. Align Screw Ports

Align the screw ports on the insulator with the corresponding screws.

  4. Prepare for Cable Installation

Back out the first screw to properly position the insulator on the bar, preparing it for the installation of the first cable.

  5. Strip the Cable

Carefully strip the cable insulation back 1-1/4 inches to 1-1/2 inches.

  6. Insert the Cable

Push the stripped cable through the cable port, ensuring the cable insulation comes up to the connector body.

  7. Secure the Cable

Using a hex wrench, tighten the ball bottom screw to secure the cable. Refer to the torque chart for the correct torque specifications: #12 to #4 wire size requires 120 in./lbs (10 ft./lbs); #2 to 350 MCM wire size requires 240 in./lbs (20 ft./lbs).
