How to Install the K675BEA Deadbreak Bushing Converter
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe installation and initial setup of the K675BEA Deadbreak Bushing Converter. It covers grounding, lubrication, and assembly procedures.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
600-AT operating tool, Hot-stick
Supplies needed:
K675BEA Deadbreak Bushing Converter, Lubricant (supplied or ELASTIMOLD approved), #14 AWG copper wire (or equivalent), Suitable connector, Appropriate HV insulated cap(s) or connector(s), Mating product (insulated cap, grounding elbow, loadbreak elbow, or elbow arrester)
- Prepare for Installation and Ensure Safety
Before beginning, ensure all apparatus is de-energized to prevent serious injury or fatality. Verify the available fault current is limited to 10,000 amperes. Inspect all package contents and components for damage, proper rating, and compatibility with mating parts. Remove any protective shipping covers and replace with appropriate HV insulated caps or connectors if submerging or energizing the circuit. Gather all required tools and maintain a clean work area.
- Connect the Grounding Wire
Insert one end of a #14 AWG copper wire (or equivalent) through the grounding eye of the bushing converter, leaving sufficient length to reach the apparatus bushing. Form a small loop and twist it tightly, being careful not to damage the grounding eye. Connect this wire securely to the system ground using a suitable connector.
- Clean and Lubricate Bushing Converter Interfaces
Thoroughly clean all bushing converter interfaces. Apply the supplied lubricant, or an ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant, to these interfaces as noted in the diagrams. Ensure all mating surfaces remain clean during this process.
- Assemble the Bushing Converter onto the Apparatus Bushing
Insert the 600-AT operating tool into the tap plug until it is fully seated. Attach a hot-stick to the eye of the 600-AT tool. Position the bushing converter onto the apparatus bushing and, while pushing the converter toward the bushing, turn the hot-stick in a clockwise direction. Continue rotating clockwise until the hot-stick begins to ratchet, indicating that the proper assembly torque has been achieved. Remove the 600-AT operating tool from the bushing converter.
- Install the Mating Product
Clean and lubricate the chosen mating product (insulated cap, grounding elbow, loadbreak elbow, or elbow arrester) using the supplied or ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant. Install this mating product onto the bushing interface by following the specific instructions provided with that product.
