How to Install the ELASTIMOLD 273/375DRG(3) Insulated Cap
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for safely installing the ELASTIMOLD 273/375DRG(3) Insulated Cap, designed for insulating, shielding, and watersealing 25kV or 35kV class loadbreak bushing interfaces.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hotstick
Supplies needed:
Insulated Cap with Ground Lead, Lubricant
- Connect the Electrostatic Grounding Wire
Connect the free end of the electrostatic grounding wire to the system ground, ensuring enough slack for hot-stick operation. CAUTION: Train the grounding wire to prevent contact with the bushing interface during operation. DANGER: Ensure all apparatus is de-energized before installation.
- Prepare the Insulated Cap
Remove the protective cover from the insulated cap. Lubricate the cap’s internal mating surface using only the supplied or ELASTIMOLD approved lubricants; do not substitute. Keep the internal mating surface clean and free from dirt. Replace the protective cover when the cap is not in use.
- Attach and Mate the Insulated Cap
Firmly attach a hotstick to the insulated cap pulling eye (an 8 ft. minimum hotstick length is recommended). Insert the male contact of the insulated cap into the loadbreak bushing, pushing it home with a fast, firm, straight motion. Verify it is fully mated with the locking ring seated. Detach the hotstick from the insulated cap.
