How to Install the LINK-C Deadbreak Cam Link Operable Connector System
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe installation and setup of the LINK-C 600 amp deadbreak cam link operable connector system, including mounting, wiring, and grounding procedures.
Estimated time: 1h
Tools needed:
Torque wrench, Socket wrench (1 inch hex), Hot stick, Wire strippers, 600ATM Operating Tool
Supplies needed:
ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant, #14 AWG or #12 AWG solid copper wire, Appropriate grounding connector, HV insulated cap(s) or connector(s) (if replacing shipping covers)
- Prepare for Installation and Ensure Safety
DANGER: Ensure all apparatus is de-energized before beginning installation or removal of any parts. This product must only be installed by competent personnel trained in high voltage electrical equipment safety practices. Inspect all parts for damage, proper rating, and compatibility with mating components. If supplied with protective shipping covers, remove them and replace with appropriate HV insulated caps or connectors before energizing or submerging the circuit. Read all instructions thoroughly before starting.
- Install the 600 Amp Elbow onto the Cable
Install the 600 amp elbow onto the cable according to the specific installation instructions provided with the elbow. Ensure it is positioned to properly align with the stand-off plug or apparatus bushing.
- Install the Bushing Extender
Clean and thoroughly lubricate the apparatus bushing and both interfaces of the 600 amp bushing extender using ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. Insert the 600ATM Operating Tool into the retainer contact and engage its internal hex broach. Install the bushing extender onto the apparatus bushing. Insert the retainer contact into the bushing extender and thread it into the apparatus bushing using a suitable tool applied to the 1-inch hex portion of the 600ATM Operating Tool. Torque to 50-60 ft-lbs.
- Install the 600 Amp Elbow onto the Epoxy Standoff Plug
Clean and thoroughly lubricate the epoxy standoff plug and both interfaces of the 600 amp elbow with ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. Insert the 600ATM Operating Tool into the retainer contact and engage its internal hex broach. Install the elbow onto the epoxy standoff plug. Insert the retainer contact into the 600 amp elbow through the hole in the compression lug and thread it into the epoxy standoff plug using a suitable tool applied to the 1-inch hex portion of the 600ATM Operating Tool. Torque to 50-60 ft-lbs.
- Install the Alignment Bracket
Remove the bushing extender clamp and elbow clamp from the alignment bracket. Position the alignment bracket on the bushing extender at a dimension of 2.5 inches (63.5mm) from the grounding eye. Assemble the bushing extender clamp to the alignment bracket with the supplied hardware, torquing by alternating sides until the clamp tabs are flush and tight on both sides.
- Position and Secure the Elbow in the Alignment Bracket
Position the elbow in the alignment bracket so that the elbow cuff is lined up evenly with the bushing extender cuff. Assemble the elbow clamp to the alignment bracket with the supplied hardware, torquing by alternating sides until the clamp tabs are flush and tight on both sides. Ensure the elbow clamp notch faces the cable entrance of the elbow.
- Insert and Engage the LINK-C Connector
Clean and thoroughly lubricate both 600 ampere interfaces of the Link with ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. Align the Link so it is perpendicular to the switch faceplate when inserted into the bushing extender and elbow. Insert the Link, ensuring both lever arms are on the inside of the alignment bracket legs. Engage the pivot pin into the slots in the alignment bracket legs. While pushing inward, move the lever arms downward using a hot stick eye, engaging the roller pin and moving the Link inward. Continue moving lever arms until they are perpendicular to the alignment bracket leg.
- Ground the System and Install Mating Products
Ground the elbow by feeding a #14 AWG or #12 AWG solid copper wire through the grounding eye, twisting it tight, and connecting it to ground. Clean and lubricate the 200 amp interface on the Link. Ground the cable: if using concentric neutral cable, twist the neutral wires together and connect to ground with an appropriate connector; if using 20MA or 21MA grounding devices, connect the ground lead to ground with a suitable connector. For three-phase installations, tie all grounds from all three phases to a common ground point. Install the desired 200 amp mating product onto the Link's 200 amp interface according to its specific instructions.
