How to Install the J4-2226-15 Deadbreak Junction (Universal Mount)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the J4-2226-15 two-, three-, or four-point deadbreak junction using the universal mount method. It covers mounting, assembly, and grounding procedures. DANGER: All apparatus must be de-energized during installation or removal of parts. This product should only be installed by competent personnel trained in high voltage electrical equipment safety practices.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Wrench set (for 3/8" and 1/2" hex nuts/cap screws), Marking tool, Wire strippers
Supplies needed:
J4-2226-15 Deadbreak Junction, Base Bracket, Base Plate, Universal Brackets (4), Mounting Hardware Prepack (contains various screws, washers, nuts), Fasteners (suitable for mounting universal brackets to surface, user-supplied), Grounding wire (No. 2 solid to 1/0 stranded), ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant, Insulated caps (for unused bushings)
- Mark Mounting Locations
Determine the desired location for the junction assembly. Use the base plate as a template, place it on the mounting surface, and mark the slot locations for the universal brackets.
- Mount Initial Universal Brackets
Attach two universal brackets to the marked slot locations on the flat surface using suitable fasteners (supplied by the user). Tighten them securely to prevent any movement during operation.
- Assemble Remaining Universal Brackets
Attach the remaining two universal brackets to the two brackets already mounted on the surface at the desired angle. Use the supplied 3/8” hex head cap screws, external tooth lock washers, and 3/8” hex nuts from the mounting hardware prepack. Tighten securely.
- Assemble Junction to Base Bracket
Assemble the deadbreak junction to the base bracket assembly and base plate. Use two 1/2” hex head cap screws, two 1/2” split lock washers, and two 1/2” hex nuts from the mounting hardware prepack, attaching them to the center mounting holes on the bracket assembly. Tighten securely.
- Mount Junction Assembly to Universal Brackets
Attach the assembled deadbreak junction to the universal brackets using the supplied 1/2” hex head cap screws, 1/2” split lock washers, and 1/2” hex nuts from the mounting hardware prepack. Tighten securely. Ensure the parking stand is in the upright position.
- Ground the Junction Assembly
The base bracket assembly and the junction’s black conductive jacket must be properly grounded. Connect a grounding wire (No. 2 solid to 1/0 stranded) to the grounding lug provided on the base bracket for this purpose. Ensure a secure connection.
- Prepare for Operation
Remove all protective shipping caps and clean the operating interfaces. Lubricate each interface with an ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant; do not substitute. If any operating interfaces are not utilized, install appropriate HV insulated caps on the unused bushings before energizing the circuit. Do not use shipping caps for this function as they are not insulated.
