Where can these multipoint junctions be installed?
ELASTIMOLD junctions are designed for subsurface, vault, or padmount applications. They feature a fully shielded and fully submersible molded rubber housing.
What items are included in a standard junction kit?
Each kit contains a basic molded junction, mounting hardware, two tubes of lubricant, installation instructions, and a protective cap.
How should 200 Amp and 600 Amp interfaces be ordered?
When a junction has both 200 Amp and 600 Series interfaces, always start with the 200 Amp side when specifying.
What does the Tilt Mounting Adapter (TMA) do?
The TMA bolts to the standard mounting bracket, providing an adjustable angle of 15, 30, 45, or 60 degrees. Two adapters are required for this option.
What interface spacing options are available?
The junctions offer standard 4'' spacing or an optional 6.5'' spacing for interfaces.
Which industry standard does this product meet?
The multipoint junctions meet ANSI/IEEE Standard 386, Latest Revision.
What are the voltage and current ratings of the junction?
The junction is rated for 15kV, 25kV, or 35kV voltage classes. It supports continuous currents of either 200 Amp or 600 Amp.
What materials are used in the junction's construction?
The junction features a molded rubber housing with 100% peroxide-cured insulation and conductive EPDM materials. Brackets utilize 304 stainless steel for corrosion prevention.
What connectors are compatible with these junctions?
These junctions provide mating for Elastimold Elbow connectors, supporting both 600 Amp and 200 Amp types.
What are the continuous current ratings?
The continuous current ratings are 600 Amp or 200 Amp.
How to Install a Deadbreak Junction with Universal Mount
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing a deadbreak junction using the universal mounting method. It covers mounting the junction to a flat surface, assembling the brackets, attaching the junction, and grounding the assembly. Ensure all apparatus are de-energized before installation.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Wrenches (for 3/8" and 1/2" hex nuts/screws), Wire strippers
Supplies needed:
Suitable fasteners (for mounting brackets to surface), Grounding wire (No. 2 solid to 1/0 stranded), ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant, HV insulated caps (if needed for unused interfaces)
- Prepare Mounting Surface
Determine the desired location for the junction assembly. Using the base plate as a template, place it on the mounting surface and mark all slot locations for drilling or fastener placement.
- Mount Universal Brackets
Attach two universal brackets to the marked locations on the flat surface using suitable fasteners. Tighten them securely to prevent any movement during operation. Then, attach the remaining two universal brackets to the first pair at the desired angle using the supplied 3/8” hex head cap screws, external tooth lock washers, and hex nuts. Tighten securely.
- Assemble Junction to Base Bracket
Assemble the deadbreak junction to the base bracket assembly and base plate. Use the supplied two 1/2” hex head cap screws, two 1/2” split lock washers, and two 1/2” hex nuts, attaching them to the center mounting holes on the bracket assembly. Tighten all hardware securely.
- Attach Junction Assembly to Universal Brackets
Attach the entire deadbreak junction assembly to the universal brackets using the supplied 1/2” hex head cap screws, 1/2” split lock washers, and 1/2” hex nuts. Tighten securely. Ensure the parking stand is in the upright position.
- Ground the Assembly
Connect a suitable grounding wire (No. 2 solid to 1/0 stranded) to the grounding lug provided on the base bracket. Ensure the base bracket assembly and the junction’s black conductive jacket are properly grounded.
- Prepare Operating Interfaces
Remove all protective shipping caps from the operating interfaces and clean them thoroughly. Lubricate each interface with an ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant; do not substitute. If any operating interfaces remain unused, install appropriate HV insulated caps before energizing the circuit.
