How many points can a multipoint junction have?
Multipoint junctions are available with 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 points.
What is included in a standard junction kit?
Each kit contains a basic molded junction, mounting hardware, lubricant tubes, installation instructions, and a protective cap.
What is the maximum operating voltage for a 35kV class junction?
For a 35kV voltage class, the maximum phase-to-ground operating voltage is 21.1kV.
What is the maximum operating voltage for a 25kV class junction?
For a 25kV voltage class, the maximum phase-to-ground operating voltage is 16.2kV.
What are the available interface spacing options?
Units feature a modular design allowing selection of 4'' or 6.5'' interface spacing.
What connectors are compatible with these junctions?
The junctions provide mating for Elastimold Elbow connectors, both 600 Amp and 200 Amp.
How to Install a Deadbreak Junction with Universal Mount
This guide provides detailed instructions for installing a two-, three-, or four-point deadbreak junction using the universal mounting method. It covers site preparation, bracket assembly, junction mounting, and essential grounding procedures.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
Wrenches, Wire Strippers, Measuring Tape, Marking Tool
Supplies needed:
Deadbreak Junction Kit (including Base Bracket, Base Plate, Universal Brackets, Mounting Hardware Prepack), Fasteners (suitable for mounting brackets to surface), Grounding Wire (No. 2 solid to 1/0 stranded), ELASTIMOLD Approved Lubricant, HV Insulated Caps (for unused interfaces)
- De-energize Apparatus and Ensure Safety
Before beginning installation, ensure all apparatus is de-energized. This product must be installed only by competent personnel trained in good safety practices involving high voltage electrical equipment. Failure to follow these instructions will result in damage to the product and serious or fatal injury.
- Determine Mounting Location and Mark Slots
Select the desired location for the junction assembly. Use the base plate as a template, place it on the mounting surface, and accurately mark all slot locations for drilling or fastener placement.
- Attach Initial Universal Brackets to Surface
Secure two (2) universal brackets to the marked flat surface using suitable fasteners. Tighten these fasteners securely to prevent any movement of the brackets during operation.
- Assemble Remaining Universal Brackets
Attach the remaining two (2) universal brackets to the two brackets already mounted on the surface at the desired angle. Use the supplied hardware (3/8” hex head cap screw, external tooth lock washer, 3/8” hex nut) and tighten securely.
- Assemble Junction to Base Bracket and Base Plate
Connect the deadbreak junction to the base bracket assembly and base plate. Use two (2) 1/2” hex head cap screws, two (2) 1/2” split lock washers, and two (2) 1/2” hex nuts, attaching them to the center mounting holes on the bracket assembly. Ensure all connections are securely tightened.
- Attach Junction Assembly to Universal Brackets
Mount the assembled deadbreak junction to the universal brackets using the supplied hardware (1/2” hex head cap screw, 1/2” split lock washer, 1/2” hex nut). Tighten all fasteners securely. Verify that the parking stand is in the upright position.
- Ground the Base Bracket and Junction Jacket
Ground the base bracket assembly and the junction’s black conductive jacket. A grounding lug is provided on the base bracket for this purpose, accommodating wire sizes from No. 2 solid to 1/0 stranded. Connect the appropriate grounding wire securely.
- Prepare Operating Interfaces
Remove all protective shipping caps from the operating interfaces. Clean each interface thoroughly and lubricate them with an ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant. Do not substitute with other lubricants, as they may harm the product.
- Install Insulated Caps on Unused Bushings
If any operating interfaces are not utilized, install appropriate HV insulated caps on these unused bushings before energization. Do not use the protective shipping caps for this function, as they are not insulated.
