How to Install J2-66-35 Deadbreak Junction with Universal Mount
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing a J2-66-35 deadbreak junction using the universal mount method. It covers mounting, assembly, grounding, and initial preparation for operation.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Wrenches or Sockets (for 3/8" and 1/2" hex nuts/cap screws), Wire strippers
Supplies needed:
J2-66-35 Deadbreak Junction, Universal Mount Kit (includes Base Bracket, Base Plate, 4 Universal Brackets, Mounting Hardware Prepack), Fasteners (suitable for mounting universal brackets to your surface), Grounding wire (No. 2 solid to 1/0 stranded), ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant, HV insulated caps (for any unused operating interfaces)
- De-energize All Apparatus
DANGER: Before beginning any installation, ensure all apparatus is de-energized. All deadbreak connectors must be de-energized before operating. Failure to follow this instruction can result in damage to the product and serious or fatal injury.
- Mark Mounting Locations
Determine the desired location for the junction assembly on a flat surface. Place the base plate on the surface and use it as a template to accurately mark the slot locations where the universal brackets will be attached.
- Mount Universal Brackets
Attach two universal brackets to the marked slot locations on the flat surface using suitable fasteners and tighten them securely to ensure no movement during operation. Next, attach the remaining two universal brackets to the first pair at the desired angle using the supplied 3/8” hex head cap screws, external tooth lock washers, and 3/8” hex nuts. Tighten all connections securely.
- Assemble and Mount Junction
Connect the deadbreak junction to the base bracket assembly and base plate using two 1/2” hex head cap screws, two 1/2” split lock washers, and two 1/2” hex nuts, attaching them to the center mounting holes on the bracket assembly. Then, attach this entire junction assembly to the universal brackets using the supplied 1/2” hex head cap screws, 1/2” split lock washers, and 1/2” hex nuts. Ensure the parking stand is in the upright position before tightening all hardware securely.
- Ground the Junction Assembly
Connect a suitable grounding wire to the grounding lug provided on the base bracket. This lug accommodates wire sizes from No. 2 solid to 1/0 stranded. Ensure both the base bracket assembly and the junction’s black conductive jacket are properly grounded.
- Prepare Operating Interfaces
Remove all protective shipping caps from the operating interfaces. Clean each interface thoroughly and lubricate them with an ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant; do not substitute other lubricants. If any operating interfaces are not utilized, install appropriate HV insulated caps on the unused bushings before energizing the circuit. Do not use the protective shipping caps for this function as they are not insulated.
