What items are included in a standard junction kit?

Each kit contains a basic molded junction, mounting hardware, two tubes of lubricant, installation instructions, and a protective cap.

How should 200 Amp and 600 Amp interfaces be ordered?

When a junction has both 200 Amp and 600 Series interfaces, always start with the 200 Amp side when specifying.

What does the Tilt Mounting Adapter (TMA) do?

The TMA bolts to the standard mounting bracket, providing an adjustable angle of 15, 30, 45, or 60 degrees. Two adapters are required for this option.

What interface spacing options are available?

The junctions offer standard 4'' spacing or an optional 6.5'' spacing for interfaces.

How to Install the J2-66-25-R Deadbreak Junction with Universal Mount

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the J2-66-25-R deadbreak junction using the universal mounting method, including assembly, grounding, and initial preparation for operation.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Wrench set (for 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch hex nuts/screws), Marking tool, Wire strippers, Multimeter (for de-energization verification)

Supplies needed:

J2-66-25-R Deadbreak Junction, Base Bracket, Base Plate, Universal Brackets (4), Mounting Hardware Prepack (includes 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch hex head cap screws, lock washers, hex nuts), Suitable fasteners (for mounting brackets to surface, e.g., lag screws), Grounding wire (No. 2 solid to 1/0 stranded), ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant, HV insulated caps (if needed for unused bushings)

  1. Safety First: De-energize Apparatus

Before beginning any installation, ensure all associated apparatus is completely de-energized. Verify the absence of voltage using appropriate safety procedures and equipment. Failure to do so can result in serious injury or fatality.

  2. Determine Mounting Location and Mark

Determine the desired location for the junction assembly on a flat surface. Use the base plate as a template, place it on the surface, and mark the four slot locations where the universal brackets will be attached.

  3. Secure First Pair of Universal Brackets

Attach two (2) universal brackets to the marked slot locations on the mounting surface using suitable fasteners (not supplied). Tighten these fasteners securely to ensure the brackets are stable and will not move during operation.

  4. Assemble Remaining Universal Brackets

Attach the remaining two (2) universal brackets to the two brackets already mounted on the surface. Position them at the desired angle and secure them using the supplied 3/8 inch hex head cap screws, external tooth lock washers, and 3/8 inch hex nuts. Tighten all connections securely.

  5. Assemble Junction to Base Bracket and Base Plate

Assemble the deadbreak junction to the base bracket assembly and base plate. Secure them together using two (2) 1/2 inch hex head cap screws, two (2) 1/2 inch split lock washers, and two (2) 1/2 inch hex nuts, attaching them to the center mounting holes on the bracket assembly. Tighten securely.

  6. Mount Junction Assembly to Universal Brackets

Attach the fully assembled deadbreak junction to the universal brackets previously mounted on the surface. Use the supplied 1/2 inch hex head cap screws, 1/2 inch split lock washers, and 1/2 inch hex nuts. Ensure the parking stand is in the upright position and tighten all hardware securely.

  7. Ground the Junction Assembly

Ground the base bracket assembly and the junction’s black conductive jacket. A dedicated grounding lug is provided on the base bracket for this purpose. Connect a suitable grounding wire (No. 2 solid to 1/0 stranded) to this lug and ensure it is properly connected to an earth ground.

  8. Prepare Operating Interfaces

Remove all protective shipping caps from the operating interfaces of the junction. Clean each interface thoroughly and lubricate them with an ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant. Do not substitute with other lubricants, as they may harm the product.

  9. Install Insulated Caps (If Applicable)

If not all operating interfaces will be utilized immediately, install appropriate HV insulated caps on any unused bushings before energizing the circuit. Do not use the protective shipping caps for this purpose, as they are not insulated.
