How to Install HLT Series Fitting for TC Tray Cable in Conduit with Liquid Sealant
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing an HLT series fitting, such as the HLT125, for Type TC Tray Cable enclosed in a Liquid Tight Flexible Metal Conduit (LTFMC) using SC4-KIT-1 liquid sealant.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
Wire strippers, Utility knife, Wrench, Suitable support or vise, Mixing tool for sealant
Supplies needed:
HLT Series Fitting (e.g., HLT125), Type TC Tray Cable, Liquid Tight Flexible Metal Conduit (LTFMC), SC4-KIT-1 Liquid Sealant Kit, Fiber damming material, Sealing tape
- De-energize Circuits and Prepare Cable
CAUTION: Risk of electrical shock. Before starting any installation or maintenance, verify that all circuits are de-energized. Remove the outer jacket from the end of the Type TC Tray Cable to expose the required working length of conductors. Remove all cable fillers and clean the individual conductor insulation. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation during this process.
- Pack Fiber Damming Material and Prepare Grounding Conductors
Tightly pack the supplied fiber damming material into all voids between the conductors and between the conductors and the cable jacket. Where applicable, spread the strands of any uninsulated grounding conductors to prepare for sealing.
- Disassemble Connector and Assemble Components to Conduit and Cable
Disassemble the HLT series connector. Slide the gland nut and sealing ring onto the Liquid Tight Flexible Metal Conduit (LTFMC). Slide the ground cone onto the Type TC Tray Cable. Thread the ground cone into the LTFMC until it is tight.
- Apply Sealing Tape to Cable Jacket
Apply the supplied sealing tape over the cable jacket, approximately 1/2 inch from the end. Build the diameter of the tape slightly larger than the inside diameter of the ground cone.
- Seat Cable into Ground Cone
Push the prepared cable back into the ground cone with a slight twisting motion. Continue pushing until only half the width of the applied sealing tape is exposed.
- Insert Cable into Insert and Secure Assembly
Insert the cable into the insert until the grounding cone is fully seated within the insert. Secure the conduit and insert assembly in a vertical position. Adequately support the conduit (not the insert) to prevent it from sliding out of the insert during the sealing process.
- Mix and Dispense Liquid Sealing Compound
Mix the SC4-KIT-1 liquid sealing compound precisely according to the instructions provided on the compound package. Dispense the mixed sealing compound into the end of the insert until the level of the compound stabilizes and fills to the top. Allow approximately 1 hour for the compound to solidify completely before proceeding.
- Mount Body and Secure Encapsulated Insert
Mount the body of the HLT series fitting in the desired location. Place the encapsulated insert (with the solidified sealant) into the body. Secure the insert in position by tightening the gland nut until it bottoms on the insert, ensuring metal-to-metal contact.
