Installation guide for mounting and wiring the 9C33U2/C75 DuraGard plug, receptacle, or connector in harsh environments.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Torque Wrench, Screwdriver, Ohmmeter, Wire Strippers, Allen Wrench, 3/16" Dia. Drive Pin (optional), Channel lock pliers
Supplies needed:
Copper or copper clad aluminum wire, Spaded conductor, Liquid tight conduit connector (not supplied)
- Prepare for Wiring
Turn power OFF. Select cable size according to the ampere rating of the device. Establish a wiring pattern ensuring the same colored wire is used for the same terminal on all devices. Note that DuraGard devices are polarized and will only accept plugs one way.
- Disassemble the Device
Disassemble the device by removing the gland nut (#8), seal (#6), conduit adapter (#7), liner (#5), and interior (#2). For connectors, separate the interior from the housing by inserting a small screwdriver or drive pin into the current sleeve from the front and tapping lightly.
- Prepare and Attach Conduit Adapter
Place the conduit adapter (#7) into the gland nut (#8) and thread it onto the liquid tight conduit connector (#9, not supplied). Torque the conduit adapter tightly (50 IN/LB MIN) to the conduit connector using channel lock pliers.
- Prepare and Insert Wires
Slide the seal (#6) and liner (#5) over the supply wires (#10) and the spaded conductor (#10A). Allow 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 inches of wire to extend beyond the edge of the liner. Strip the wire 1/2 inch for 30 & 50 AMP devices or 3/4 inch for 60 AMP devices. Loosen pressure screws (#2A) and insert the stripped end of each conductor, including the spaded conductor (#10A) with the ground wire (#10) nested on top, into the contacts (#2B) according to your established wiring pattern.
- Tighten Wire Connections
Tighten the pressure screws (#2A) to 20 IN/LB for 30 & 50 AMP devices or 25 IN/LB for 60 AMP devices.
- Reassemble the Device
Reassemble the interior (#2) into the housing (#1) by aligning the tabs on the housing with the notches on the interior. Ensure the top edge of the liner (#5) is flush with the top edge of the housing (#1). Thread the gland nut (#8) onto the housing (#1), ensuring only the gland nut turns to prevent wire twisting. Tighten the gland nut (#8) to 40-80 IN/LB and the thread locking screw (#8A) to 2 IN/LB.
- Perform Electrical Tests
WARNING: Do not connect to power until electrical tests are performed. Use an ohmmeter to check continuity of wiring for correct phasing and grounding connections. Check insulation resistance to ensure there are no short circuits or unwanted grounds.
- Final Connection and Testing
Connect all devices in the system. Turn the power on and test the entire system.
